    ^even Dorms
Rented—
(Confirmed from page one)
as a dormitory unit is being given
a new name so that there will be
no confusion in the telephone list
ings between the new groups and
the army personnel stationed ill
the former dormitories.
The dormitory units will be un
der the supervision of the Univer
sity group, each of the women’s
groups having a house mother as
usual, and each of the men’s
-groups having a sponsor. Each
%mit will probably have its own
dining room facilities and cook.
The Phi Kappa Psi house has
already been rented by the Sacred
Heart hospital for use as a nurses’
home.
If the number of civilian stu
dents is larger than anticipated
and more space is needed, more
of the fraternity houses may
be opened by the University as
dormitories.
Merv Vater, representative of
the Bresee Warner accounting
system, is now on the housing
committee as assistant to Mrs.
Genevieve Turnipseed, dormitory
director. He is in charge of rent
ing the fraternities for use as dor
mitories. The fraternities and the
University have signed the same
type of contracts for the use of
the buildings as the army uses
when arranging for the use of
fraternity buildings for housing
of soldiers.
Besides the dormitories and
cooperatives, sororities will be
operating as usual at the Uni
versity.
Campbell club, one of the men’s
cooperatives will be open from the
beginning of the year and there is
a possibility that Canard club
may open if there are enough men
to warrant this extra housing
i space. Kirkwood Co-op has def
initely been closed.
*
According to the action of the
state board of education the price
of room and board in the dormi
tories has been slightly increased
which will make board $31 per
calendar month and rooms will be
$15 per month. Board and room in
the cooperatives is expected to be
approximately $25 per month.
Reservations for staying in
either the dormitories or co
operatives should be made as
soon as possible. A $5 deposit
is required from students plan
ning to move into the dormi
tories and this should be sent
as soon as possible to the dor
mitory director at the Univer
sity.
Students interested in moving
into the cooperatives should con
tact the membership chairman of
student cooperatives at the Uni
versity. Students will be notified
as to which dormitory they are to
move into after their applications
and deposits are received.
Regardless of where students
are planning to live, they should
be sure to bring their food ration
books with them.
The endowment of Northwest
ern university totals $30,000,000,
as compared with $5,6$$,000 in
1920.
