Smith has been promoted from first lieuten ant to captain in the marine corps, according to information reaching his father, Dr. Warren D. Smith, head of the department of geology and geography on the campus. Captain Smith related that he and other American marines have been initiating the South Sea islanders into the old Amer ican game of baseball.
