'Chetniks’ Portrays Gallant Fight of Balkan Patriots Charging the screen with high-voltage action and suspense, “Chetniks!” the fighting guerrillas opens Thursday at the Mc Donald theater. Thrill follows thrill, as the daring Balkan patriots fight to destroy the conqueror’s dream of conquest. An enemy troop train is destroyed: an ammunition dump blown sky-high: an enemy patiol ambushed. That's tin' handiwork of the death defy ing men whose story is the story of bold people everywhere fight ing the ihvad'er on their native soil. ■ While stirring action high lights the film, there is a full share of romance and drama, too, as the guerilla leader, played by Philip Dorn, and his men fight against staggering odds for the women, as well as the freedom, they love, (Ph’ase him to I'liLjr ssrai) Greasy Thumb. Bogart Hikes Autograph hunters and star worshippers by the hundreds missed the opportunity of a life time recently. Fin route from his home to Warner Bros, for work in “Ac tion in the North Atlantic," Hum phrey Bogart found himself stranded when his glorified scooter ran out of gas half-way up Cahuenga Pass. Several score of drivers slowed down in response to the wildly waving thumb of the star, only to speed up after giving him a closer inspection. Bogart was wearing the ragged, dirty dun garees which are his costume in his current starring picture. He was also liberally sprinkled with grease, soot, and ashes—makeup applied at home for the tanker sinking scenes. Giving up the thumbing a9 a bad job, Bogart hiked the rest of the way to Warner Bros, where he was greeted -only five min utes late—by Director Lloyd Ba con. “I saw you,” grinned the di rector, "but I thought it was a good idea to let you walk. You're supposed to be exhausted in this first scene, and X want you to look that way.” 'Eyes in the Night’ with Edward Arnold — Ann Harding COMING SUNDAY m T% ■ i lom, Dick and Harry Starring GINGER ROGERS and GEORGE MURPHY Dottie, Hope Bring Laughs To Mayflower Romance and spy-thrills in the nation’s capital form the theme of Samuel Goldwyn’s new comedy feature, “They Got Me Covered,” which co-stars Bob EJope and Dorothy Lamour. Designed strictly for laughing purposes, the film presents Hope as an erratic foreign correspon dent for a big news syndicate, Miss Lamour as the manager of the syndicate’s Washington bu reau and girl friend of the cor respondent. When he is fired for muffing a big story, the newsman goes to Washington for consolation, soon finds he is on the trail of the big gest story yet—the complete plans for Axis espionage in this country, and how it operates. On trying to get the tale exclusive ly, however, he learns that the Axis leaders know of the threat ened exposure and are doing ev erything in their power to stop it. Over a thousand hopeful entries were received, and Director A1 Rogell heroically went through them all, includ ing such litle masterpieces as “When the Century Plant Blooms t..... n .. ..* Jack Carson and Joan Leslie have the leads in “The Hard Way,” which opens Sunday at the McDonald theater.
