'Sister Eileen’ Casting Done By BETTY ANN STEVENS Punctuated by “My Sister Ei leen's” sister, unintentionally sit ting down on some especially prickly flowers, double-trouble with Assistant Director Marellen Wilber finding the cues, and the “wolf” scene, the cast of “My Sister Eileeen” is now in the final brushing-up process. Under the soft-voiced direction of Horace B. Robinson, a la Or son Welles, the Broadway and motion picture hit will be pro duced on April 23, 24, 27, and 28 by the University theater. “All-campus” in the true sense of the word, members of the cast are for the first time predom inantly in other majors than drama. The set, designed by James Bronson, portrays a typical New York one-room basement apart ment with one window, an ex coal chute, beyond which the feet of passersby move back and forth. Drunks, a misunderstand ing policeman, two Arabs, and some Brazilian naval cadets add complications to the already none too-private existence of Eileen and Ruth, a struggling actress and writer, respectively. Bankers’ Association Offers Scholarship Victor P. Morris, dean of the school of business administration, has received word that the Am erican Bankers association will grant one loan scholarship for the academic year 1943-44 to a junior man in the school of business ad ministration at the University. The scholarship is for $250. To be eligible, the student must be a graduating student in 1944. Anyone interested in the schol arship should go to the office of the school of business adminis tration for further information and application blanks. / Pledges Announced New pledges announced this week by the dean of men's office include Harmon Rossum, Delta Tail Delta; and Daniel Beyer, Al pha Tau Omega. John Stark Evans, professor of music, will conduct the Eugene Gleemen in a half-hour program to be broadcast over the Mutual coast network tonight at 8 p.m. The broadcast will originate through KORE from the Elks temple. There will he no audience at the temple because of the ac coustics. There will be no commercials and only brief announcements will be made during the program. Cora Moore Frey will be the ac companist. The broadcast was arranged through the efforts of the local radio station and the Eugene chamber of commerce. Dr. Erb Speaks to Club Dr. Donald M. Erb, president of the University, will go to Port land this week to address the Mother’s club there on Wednes day. He has not yet selected the title of his address to the Moth er’s group. Local Men Sing on Ai Former Art Student Escorts Chinese Lady Fred Gong, former AAA stud ent and art editor of the Oregana, was one of the first ten in the 200 American-born Chinese air men who were escorts to Madame Chiang Kai Chek at the Holly wood bowl recently. Gong won a $1000 scholarship from the American magazine in a contest several years ago He left fall term to train as a bombardier at Santa Ana, Cali fornia. Cigarettes Go to Men At Fighting Fronts Service men are receiving 50, 000 packages of Chesterfields ev every week now as a message of good cheer to the fighting men at the front. This is in connec tion with the company's pro grams on the air, Fred Waring’s “Pleasure Time,” and the Harry James program. The Fred Waring program is devoted entirely to the broadcast of tunes selected as favorites of men in the services. UO Roll Whittled To2000—and One Yes. there are 2,000 students enrolled in the University, in fact, there are more than 2,000, but just one more. A check in the registrar's office Monday re vealed' 2001 students enrolled since 12 withdrew last week. Nine of the withdrawals last week were men, and seven of them gave their reason for quit ting school as being military. A total of 107 men have with drawn so far this term for mili tary reasons, while only seven withdrew for this reason last spring term in a comparable length of time. Work Hours Show Alpha Delta Pis High Alpha Delta Pi women regain ed their positions of first place last week in the weekly Red Cross participation with a total of 38 hours for the week spent at Red Cross work Pi Beta Phi took second place with 26 hours, and Gamma Phi Beta came in a close third with 25 hours work. Business Group Selects Members Orville Marcellus Jr., junior in business administration, and Bet ty Ann Keup, junior in business administration, who are the newly elected members of Beta Gamma Sigma, and Pauline Sulflow, who has been selected as the outstand ing freshman in business admin istration, will be honored at the spring term Beta Gamma Sigma dinner to be held Wednesday eve ning, April 21, at the Osburn ho tel. The upper three per cent of tlw» junior class in business adminis tration are elected to Beta Gam ma Sigma, national business ad ministration honorary, each spring. Miss Suflow’s name will go on the Beta Gamma Sigma plaque which hangs in the hall of the Commerce building. Dr. Calvin Crumbaker, profes sor of economics, will be the guest speaker at the dinner.
