CARRICK BECKWITH Varsity basketball coach Howard “Hobby” Hobson offered two ex planations for the Oregon team’s defeat at the hands of the Washing ton Huskies in a melon-tossing double-header over the week-end. (1) “The boys were inexperienced,” and (2) “They were way off their ‘shooting eyes’." Hobson revealed that the Ducks canned but nine out of GO basket-attempts Saturday night, and that that mag nificent average netted but a grand total of 13 per cent. llliillllilii! i Oh So Close!! ALL STOLE SHOW . . . . . . diminutive Hon Kirscli, Ore gon captain, repeatedly pilfered Hie ball from Washington hands to plop in points. “An average basketball team hits 30 per cent of their shots." “We were way off on both nights, but mostly so in the second half Friday night and in the entire game Saturday night." These were the terse statements the Green and Gold cage mentor had to offer yesterday morning. Shake Up Seen Hobson indicated that there would be a big shake-up in the Oregon line-up in the future; that the status of both the starting line-up and the traveling squad was in a definitely “uncertain” stage. “Warren Taylor's departure from both contests hurt us plen ty,” "Hobby” admitted. “While he was in the game, he sparked the starting five with lots of drive. He was instrumental in re trieving the ball off the back board." “It was tough on the boys to drop two close games,” comment ed Hobson, “but their morale is surprisingly good. They will be more than ready for the Huskies in their Seattle invasion.” Hobson liked the play of Washington’s cracker - jack center, “Chuck” Gilmur, hut felt that it was the drive of guards Morris and Captain Leask that spelled the Ducks’ doom Saturday night. Concentrated practice drills will be the order of the week, according to Hobson. “Hobby" felt that his casaba tutelages were not out of the northern division race yet. BATTLING BOB . . . . . .
