HUI-O-KAMAAINA . . . . . . club for all Hawaiian-born students, rehearses for its part in the Homecoming radio rally last night . . . the club presented several songs of Hawaii over KOIN. Homecoming Hello Girl’ All Around Activity Coed By ROBERTA BOYD Welcoming Homecoming alums is Martha Jane Switzer, official “Hello girl.” This 5 foot 7 inch “bundle curly hair, flashing brown eyes, ical college coed. That she is hostess was proven by an inter view with her at the Side Thurs day. A California girl at heart, though a resident of Eugene now, she transferred from the Univer sity of Stanford after her fresh man year. Stanford Transfer “Which college do I like best?” slight scratching of the side of her head, big smile, “I like Stan ford a lot, but you just can’t beat Oregon. The social life is com pletely different at Stanford— af personality” with her dark and sparkling smile is a typ “but definitely” a delightful very elaborate dances, but not many of them. It’s much more fun going to lots of dances.” Quick swallow of coke—“Oh yes, I just love to dance!” M. J. or “Swizzle” as she was tagged by Greg Dekker, is quite the activity girl although she said “It’s all very new to me. I’m a student at heart.” The gleam in her eye completely gave her away. Hounded College Life She is co-chairman for patrons Welcome Grads Homecoming . . . the time old grads are the feted ones. Booth-Kelly Lumber Com pany wishes to extend best wishes to all gradu ates of the University. 507 Willamette Phone 85 Naval Examinations Ensign Sidney Anderson, who is in charge of navy recruiting for the joint procurement board, has requested that all men contemplating navy en listment who have not complet ed their papers and who are certain that applications will be completed by November 14 appear for phy sical examination as soon as possible. This request is prompted by the possibility of a last min ute rush during which some men might not be able to com plete their physical'. on the Coed Capers committee and is also co-chairman for the World Student Service fund. She believes that outside activities round out college life. “My love life?” she laughed. “I knew I’d get asked about that sooner or later.” Deep thought— another drink of coke. “Well, it's like this—variety is the spice of life, so they tell me, consequently I believe in playing the field.” Ah, Ha! A few minutes later she un wittingly remarked about an air cadet. When questioned, she smiled slyly, said nothing, and looked very mysterious. Ah, ha!! Carrying her job as official Hello girl to the nth degree, this charming hostess is even accom panying an alum to Tommy Dor sey’s swing session — an ATO, class of '42. Doves Dorsey Music “I just love Tommy Dorsey’s music, especially his handsome vocalist,” she sighed with a far away look in her eye. She was snapped out of her trance by the sudden appearance of Earle Russell, rally-rally, who was dashing madly around look ing for girls to pick up the UCLA Bruins and take them to football practice. “Shows a Lot” “Pick up a football team ? That shows me a lot,” she replied as Russell dashed quickly on his way. An econ major, “M. J.” is a typical business woman “from away back.” She hopes some day to do graduate work in personnel at Radcliffe. Patriotic Doings As for the war situation, she believes that everything is bound to turn out right in the end. Until then the people must accept, things as they come. . “How am I patriotic ? I knit slightly,” breaking into a laugh. And I entertain lieutenants from Camp Adair, thanks to Liz Ed munds. Nothing like keeping up the morale, I always say!” Travel Gill She’s quite a traveler, having been all over the United States. One of the New England states is where she would like to settle down some day. The picturesque homes and definite traditions of the people completely fascinate her. Just as she’s getting dreamy eyed again, in swishes Janet Ross, activity girl plus, all out of breath. Janet sits down, rambles on hurriedly for a couple of min utes, then jumps up saying, “What am I doing here?” WELCOME GRADS Yes we’re still here serving the students as always. Street Floor Cigarettes Total 2,022; Alqha Os, Pi Kaps Lead A total of 2,022 packages of cigarettes was collected in the three day USO cigarette drive Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Count was taken of the individual boxes placed in all campus living organizations the Co-op, College Side, YWCA, YMCA, and Gerlinger hall. Alpha Omicron Pi and Highland house tied for first place in the women’s division, University house, second, and Alpha Chi Omega, third for the women’s groups. Pi Kappa Alpha won first, Beta Theta Pi, second, and Sigma Phi Epsilon, third in the men’s section,.
