Today’s article takes up the Army’s reserve classes, their operation and opportunities.) The enlisted reserve corps is established for “the enlist ment of male college students for the purpose of developing canacities of leadership and acquiring special knowledge in college which is of prime impor tance to the army in the devel opment of future officeiVU. S. Joint Factual Pamphlet. Must Be Citizen Candidates must be male citi zens of the United States, either married or single. They must be not less than 18 or more than 45 at the time of enlistment; how ever, men who have not reached 18 are included in the school quota for enlistment providing they sign an agreement to enlist in the reserve upon reaching their eighteenth birthday. Enlistment is for the duration of the war and six months there after unless sooner terminated by the president. No Attendance Enlistees must be accepted by and actually in attendance on the campus of an accepted college as a regularly enrolled full-time resident undergraduate student at the time of enlistment. Upon graduation specially qualified students may be recommended for further study. No enlistments are accepted after induction notices have been received from local draft boards. Students who are not enrolled in a full course are not eligible for enlistment in the enlisted re serve corps. No student may re main in college beyond' a four year period of time. But the amount of time which a student may remain in college shall be the normal time, within the four year maximum, specified to meet the requirements of graduation for the class in which he is cur rently enrolled at the time of his enlistment. At the conclusion of the sopho more year, a qualifying examina tion is given to all students. This examination may not be taken more than once, if the student fails to meet the standards es tablished by this examination he will be called to duty as an en listed man at the close of the term or semester. Students in all classes may be enlisted in the enlisted reserve corps during the calendar year 1942. Thereafter enlistments will be restricted to freshmen. The wo men's swimming pool in Gerlin ger hall will be open every Fri day evening from 7:30 to 9:30 to both men and women for recrea tional swimming. Women will be furnished suits by the department but must take their own caps. Men must furn ish their own suits. Large Number “Our objective is to obtain the very large number of aviation cadets which must be trained ev ery year until this war is brought to a successful conclusion, and at the same time to cause the least possible disruption in the nation’s educational program.” To this end two important de cisions have been made: first, to accept for immediate enlistment in the air corps enlisted reserve, those men now in schools and colleges who are qualified and who do not expect to continue their education beyond the pres ent academic year. These men will be called for active duty as facilities become available, ap pointed aviation cadets, and be assigned to aviation cadet train ing. Second, to enlist in the air corps enlisted reserve on a de ferred service basis qualified men now in schools and colleges who can continue their education.”— Municipal Men Orville Etter, Virgil Langtry, and Howard Ennor of the Bureau of Municipal Research are now touring the state to attend meet ings of the League of Oregon Cities. The air corps reserve offers training for men as bombardier, navigator, and pilot, all leading to commissions as second lieu tenants in the army air corps reserve. Also offered are non flying commissions in armament, engin eering, meteorology, and photog raphy. Deferred Basis Qualified applicants may also enlist on a deferred basis pend ing completion of the college course. All deferments under this plan are subject to termination upon a call by the secretary of war. “Cadets eliminated from any of these types of training will be eligible to apply for one of the other courses of air force train ing, provided they are so rec ommended and that air force pol icies permit such further train ing. If the cause of elimination is such that further flying officer training is not recommended, a cadet may be allowed to pursue either armament or seme other type of ground officer training, provided he meets the require ments thereof and is recommend ed for the particular course cho sen. If the eliminated' aviation cadet is ineligible for either fur ther flying officer or ground of ficer training, he will be relieved as an aviation cadet, and sent as Meet Features Band, Yell Kinif Ted Loud, newly appointed yell king, and George Carey, band leader who will play at the Whis kerino Saturday night, were fea tured at the rally assembly Thursday morning.
