Anything from a hay rack to a fire engine seems logical for scrap transportation, and Can ard club is beginning to think a hay rack is better than a car, providing, of course, there are (Please turn to page eight) Cloud Chooses Publicity Head John Mathews, associate ed itor of the Emerald, was early last night appointed publicity di rector for the Homecoming cele bration by Homecoming Chair man Pat Cloud. Mathews is the third named of six assistants to the chairman. Already appointed are Marion Harris, executive sec retary, and Bill Lilly, chairman of the signs committee. Parade lines will form at 10:50 a.in. on East Fifth street' near the Oregon Electric depot, where living organizations, ■will join other Eugene groups, clubs, and just plain citizens for one of the biggest celebrations in the city's history. The rally squad and the Eniversity baud will join the parade at the starting point. Band to March All band members arc to meet at 10:30 m the ROTO build ing in uniform. They will be transported by truck to town and will join the parade lines later. The parade prop* will" start at Fifth and Willamette, march and roll up \\ illamettc to Thirteenth, then turn left on I hirteenth to [’earl, where all scrap used will be dumped. Judges Listed Judges for the L niversitv s part in the celebration will be stationed in the Shamrock tea room on Penney's balcony at the northwest corner of Broadway and Willamette, judges will be Miss Janet Smith, employment secretary; Virgil 1). Earl, dean of men; Warren C. Price, assistant professor of journalism; and Dr. Will Y. Norris, professor of physics. 1 he awards will be graded 50 per cent on quantity of scrap metal and 50 per cent on amount of noise and participation of organizations. Prizes will be two $25 war bonds, one to each of the houses in the winning pair. Noise Meter Used A special noise volume recorder will be used by Dr. Norris to determine which group is the most enthusiastic. Noise must be hand-generated. No electric or gasoline operated motors will be allowed by the judges. Ese of special noise-makers such as high-pitched dog whistles to affect the volume re corder will not be allowed. One motor-driven automobile or truck and as many wag ons, trailers or other trucks or automobiles that can be pulled may be used by each group. Violators Ousted Each organization should have its own signs painted for the occasion and each group should carry an identifying ban ner or large sign. Any violation of the rules of the contest which are listed in full in the boxed story below, will immediately disqualify that group. The judges’ decisions will be final. In case one of (Please turn to page eight) Parade Rules Disclosed What to use in the scrap iron noise parade: 1. One motor-driven truck or car. 2. As many non-motor-driven wagons, bicycles, carts, ci; trailers as can be lined up. Rules for the noise parade: 1. All noise must be “hand generated.’’ 2. All scrap used to create noise must be thrown onto the scrap pile at Thirteenth and Pearl following the parade. 3. Judging will be based 50 per cent on noise, and 50 pet cent of scrap volume turned in. 4. Violators to rules one and two will be disqualified.
