Air Corps Reject One of the major requirements of the program is an army air corps reject for all men from 18 to 27 who apply. Men up to 37 years of age may take the pro gram. Mr. Stovall explained that the program was trying to util ize those not quite capable of in tense combat service—and thus they must first be rejected by the air corps yet with a grade of 65 or over in the mental exam ination. Programs are eight weeks long and those students desiring Uni versity credit hours can obtain them by paying a small tuition charge. Six credit -hours are granted for primary and 12 for secondary work. New Program The next program is scheduled to’ begin kkm after the first of September. Coast Guard To Take V-7’s (4) Coast Cuard Reserve Cadets A limited number of naval of ficer candidates (V-7) will be permitted, upon application and upon receiving a baccalaureate degree, to take training as Coast Guard cadets, ellading to com missions in the Coast Guard Re serve. Physical qualifications include 18/20 vision, normal color vision, 20 permanent teeth, and no over bite. Courses recommended include physics, mathematics, speech, chemistry, foreign languages, and history. Enlistment procedure is the same as for the naval program. Enlistment information is avail able at the military reserve desk in McArthur court or the infor mation desk of Johnson hall. - New Reserve Open to Ducks (1) Army Enlisted Reserve Corps Exact details of the plan whereby students may enlist in the Army Enlisted Reserve Corps and continue their col lege education are still in a pro cess of formulation. Students are allowed to enlist in the ERC im mediately. Preliminary announcements from the war department indicate that under this program a stu dent will surely not be called to active duty until he reaches se lective service age and never in the middle of a term. Certain types of students, when called to active duty, will be placed in special University courses both academic and mili tary before leaving college. Stu dents in ERC can qualify for the advance course ROTC upon reaching their junior year. When called to active duty under this plan a student is eligible for of ficer training regardless of how much college he has been able to complete. Requirements Physical qualifications for en listment include 20/200 eyesight, corrected to 20/40; partially im paired color blindness of the red green type will be allowed; there are no special requirements on number of teeth, and overbite is permissible. Students enlisting under this program, according to Dr. Carl Kossack, campus reserve adviser, should plan their programs so that they are definitely obtain ing training which will prepare them for war service. Mathemat ics is necessary for any student interested in officer training. Oth er courses include physics, chem istry, speech, geology, foreign languages, mechanical drawing, and accounting. In case of a conflict between war training courses and Univer sity .requirements, war training courses should be given first con sideration. When a V-l cadet finishes his sophomore year he transfers to either V-7 (deck of ficers’ training) and completes his four-year course or he trans fers to V-5 (flight training) and is sent to a flight training school. Students enrolled in engineer ing, naval architecture, mathe matics, physics, chemistry, busi ness administration, or pre-med ical courses may enlist in the Na val Reserves under V-l(s) or V-7(s), special service, and train for special service commissions ih the Navy. All Upperclassmen enlist in V-7. Qualifications Physical qualifications for the general service division are 18/20 Vision; normal color vision; 20 permanent teeth, and no over bite. Physical qualifications for the special services include 12/20 vision corrected to 20/20; red green partial color-blindness ac ceptable; 18 permanent teeth, and no overbite. Students in V-l must take one year of college mathematics and one year of college physics, cadets include physics 207, 296; math 320; history of the United States; speech; foreign language, and chemistry. ! Upper division students and students who will be 20 years of age or older before Novem ber 1 should obtain their enlist Army Air Plan Given Outline (3) Army Air Corps Reserve Students enlisted in the Army Air Corps Reserves will be per mitted, so long as the exigencies of war permit, to continue their college courses and graduate be fore being called for active train ing. Ground duty enlistments are available for upperclassmen en rolled in special fields. Lower di vision students interested in ground duty should enlist in the Enlisted Reserve Corps. Physical qualifications for flight duty include 20/20 vision and normal color vision. No in formation on teeth requirements are available. Those enlisting for ground duty must have 20/100 vision corrected to 20/20 in ono eye and 20/S0 in the other. Courses recommended include mathematics, physics, radio, to pography, meteorology, astron-i omy, navigation, and science Work preparing students for ground duty. Enlistment procedure is the same as for Naval and Marine Corps reserves.
