battleship will be erected in the
middle of McArthur court, and
will be named after the Little
Admiral.
A novel plan for the promo
tion of the Frosh Glee was an
nounced yesterday by Bob Hen
derson, promotion chairman.
There will be a contest open to all
freshmen. Each contestant will
wear a sign with a verse about
the Frosh Glee.
Signs will be worn for two
days about a week before the
dance. The winner of the contest
will receive $10 in defense
stamps. Further details of the
contest will be announced later,
and all freshmen will be expect
ed to participate.

one of the west coast and one in
the mid-west.

A Guinea Pig club is the latest
wrinkle at Montreal’s McGill uni
versity. Members colunteer as
"guinea pigs” to be used in ex
periments the university is con
ducting- on war problems in be
half of the Dominion. Experi
ments are “harmless and simple,”
prospective club members are as
sured.
Connecticut coeds are taking
seriouslsy farmer complaints that
hired help has been siphoned off
the farm into war industry or the
army. They are spending several
hours each week on farms and
communities, helping out with
the chores.
Some of the schools most suc
cessful in setting up thriving OCD
College Defense committees are
the University of North Carolina,
Northwestern, Occidental, Wayne
university, Skidmore, Smith, Uni
versity of Pittsburgh and Univer
sity of St. Louis. Apparently the
most difficult task at many
schools is to keep the committees
representative of the whole col
lege family. The tendency often is
for one faction or another to take
over, according to the OCD office
in Washington.
Attendance at British universi
ties has dropped until it is now
about 50 per cent of prewar nor
mal.

Work Shown
Architecture and allied arts
students have had an opportun
ity during the last week to see
some of the work done by one of
their professors, Walter R. Will
cox, professor emeritus.
Professor Willcox’s. display be
ing shown in the exhibition room
in the architecture building, is
made up of photographs, plans,
and drawings of work he has done
since he started practicing ar
chitecture in Burlington, Ver
mont.
Designed Home
While Mr. Willcox was practic
ing architecture in Seattle he de
signed a home for Dean Eric Al
len of the journalism school. Mr.
Allen was working for the Seat
tle Post-Intelligencer at that
time. The plans of the house are
in the display.
Various local buildings includ
ing the Westgate building in
which the College Side is located,
the Congregational church, and
the Kappa Alpha Theta house
were also designed by Mr. Will
cox.

Form Library Display
It was learned recently that
pamphlets dealing with civilian
defense and other phases of the
war are now on display at a war
information center in the circu
lation room in the library.
The display includes informa
tion about peace aims, war eco
nomics, bonds, morale, air-raid
protection, post-war organization,
army life, and any other topic
that might help educate the pub
lic.
John March, formerly of the li
brary reference department, be
gan collecting the material for
the display and started the ar
rangement. He is now stationeed
at the medical replacement train
ing center at Camp Barkeley,
near Abilene, Texas.
