Ducks Spurn Money
By BARBARA YOUNGER
The red, white, and blue spirit showed like neon lights in
Oregon students when they rose to a man (one remained seat
ed) to say that they would rather have seven per cent of their
co-op receipts in defense bonds than five per cent in cash.
When students forsake that scarce glittery stuff for pieces
of paper with pretty printing, they must know that those

Great Talent
By CAROL, GREENING
Few musical tasks seem too
arduous to Emery Hobson, pi
anist, who featured the technical
ly intricate Beethoven “Sonata,”
opus 10, number 3, in his senior
recital last night at the music au
ditorium.
His agile fingers weaving deli
cate patterns on the keyboard,
Hobson displayed excellent tone
control in the second movement
of the sonata, bringing out the
full beauty of the stately meas
ures. Brilliant variety was shown
throughout the piece, which is
distinguished for its orchestral
quality.
Song Flight
“On Wings of Song,” by Men
delssohn-Liszt, contained excel
lent opportunities for Hobson’s
technical skill. The singing mel
ody of this ever-popular number
was brought out beautifully; Hob
son’s excellent control was again
displayed.
Other more modern pieces on
the program drew prolonged ap
plause from the small but high
ly enthusiastic audience. The Cho

their education at either the Uni
versity of Heidelberg or Tokyo.
Bonds Optional
The Co-op board is consider
ing offering defense bonds and
stamps to students who would
rather have them than cash.
One dear creature replied: “I
think defense bonds would be
just lovely!”
Would you rather have seven
per cent of your Co-op receipts
in defense bonds than have five
per cent in cash ?

Another question was asked of
men in ROTC. It was, “Do you

shimmering poetry in it, and “El
