’Silver Thaw’ Cheats UO Of Assembly University students were cheat ed of a chance Thursday to hear Dr. Frank Munk, noted refugee professor, because of a “silver thaw” that wasn’t a silver thaw. No heat and no lights prevent ed holding the assembly for Wed nesday afternoon in Chapman hall. Mr. George Hellyer, west ern regional director for Federal Union Inc., was to have cooper ated with Dr. Munk in holding a joint public forum on the sub ject, “Federal Union in Europe.” Make Attempt Karl W. Onthank, dean of per sonnel administration, said Thurs day that an attempt would be made to persuade Dr. Munk to return to the campus later in the year. However, it was expected that this plan would fail, since his schedule is completely filled during this trip and his teaching duties at the University of Cali fornia would probably prevent his coming back again. Until last year Dr. Munk was a member of the faculty of Reed college in Portland. He is now a professor of economics at the University of California at Berke ley. “Union Now” Mr. Hellyer, who has spoken on the campus before, is an author ity on international relations. He has had several years of practi cal business experience in Japan and other Asiatic countries. He represents the “Union Now” movement, of which Clarence Streit, who spoke at a Univer sity assembly last term, is presi dent. Dr. Munk’s lecture Thursday was to have been on the subject, "Hitler’s Slave Empire From the Inside.” Weather Conditions Alter Rush Week Plans Owing to unfavorable weather conditions, rush week for women has been extended to Monday, with pledge dinners scheduled for Monday evening. Because phoning is so difficult, date cards will be used as in fall rushing, and rushees should call for their date cards at the dean of women’s office between 7:30 and 9:30 Friday and Saturday mornings, and between 8:30 and 9:30 Sunday morning. Formal bids may be called for at the dean of women’s office at 8 Monday morning. Girls who accept bids will move out of the dorms Tuesday, ac cording to word from the Panhel lenic office. Campus clothes are in order for all rush dates. Mothers Plan Lunch The executive committee of the Oregon Mothers’ club will meet for a luncheon in the men’s dor mitory this afternoon.
