In Coast Guard
Laited State3 coast guard has
announced the 1942 competitive;
examination for appointment of
cadets to the coast guard acad
emy to be held May 13, 1942, ac
cording to information received
from the dean of men’s office.
This examination is open to
University men between the ages
of 17 and 22 years. The mental
rc J tirements are, in general,
those necessary for admission to
engineering colleges.
Located in East
The Coast Guard academy is
located at New London, Connec
ts t. The course of instruction
i3 basically scientific and engin
eer ng in character. Annual
cruises are made to foreign ports.
Pay of a cadet while undergo
ing instruction is $780 per year,
plus an allowance for subsistence.
After graduation, a cadet is eligi
ble for a commission in the coast
guard as ensign.

three state institutions in Salem
December 2, on an all-day' trip

Law Professor Goes
To Athletic Conclave
Orlando J. Hollis, professor of
law, left for Palm Springs, Calif
last Friday afternoon where he
will attend the Pacific Coast ath
letic conference’s regular Decem
ber meeting. His official capacity
is faculty athletic representative
for the University of Oregon.
Coach Tex Oliver and Anse
Cornell will join him there on
their way home from the Texas
game. The conference will last
until Wednesday.
