Two Fight Fire ' In Alpha Chi 0 Fire of undetermined origin burned a woodpile and parts of the furnace room in the Alpha Chi Omega sorority house short ly before noon yesterday. Dam age was slight. Quick action by Mrs. C. A. Christianson, housekeeper, and Lee Spitzer, houseboy, probably saved the basement from further damage. They notified the Eu gene fire department and played a garden hose on the burning woodpile. The fire apparently started be hind the woodpile “fairly high up.’’ Eugene fire department of ficials and house officers dis missed theories that faulty wir ing or a cigarette may have caused the fire. A “collar" had just been installed on the fur nace to prevent fires being start ed from it. No personal property of house members was destroyed, since the fire was held within walls of the furnace room. YWCA Seabeck Rally ^ Planned For Tuesday A Seabeck rally complete with refreshments, games, and sing ing will be held Tuesday after noon at 4 o’clock in the YWCA bungalow, Marge Dibble, chair man, announced. All interested fellows and coeds on the campus are invited to attend. Campus “Seabeckites” (mem bers who have attended in past years the annual YMCA-YWCA conference held on the coast near Seattle) are asked to come to the meeting and bring any and all pictures of convention fun and scenes, Miss Dibble reported. The University young people’s Bible school class will meet at 9:45 a.m. At 5:45 p.m. the young people will again meet for their regular prayer service in the men’s classroom. The University BYPU mem bers are featuring a special ra dio program at 6:15 in the COS room. Musical numters appro priate to the occasion have been planned. The evening gospel pro gram begins at 7:30 and the pas tor, Dr. Webster, will talk on the “High Cost of Wrong Living." Dr. V. P. Morris, dean of the school of business administra tion, will conduct the University Bible school class at 9:45 a.m. in the jj’J'irst Christian church. Dr. Chillers will speak upon the theme, “Facing Our Task” at the regular morning worship service at 11 o’clock. episcopal Episcopal students will be hosts to Bishop Benjamin D. Dag well of the Oregon diocese Sun day evening at 6 o’clock in the parish house. Bishop Dagwell is well known on the campus and a frequent visitor. At 7:30 Sun day evening he will preach and conduct the service of confirma tion in St. Mary’s church. At the morning service the Rev. Ernest Bartlam will preach on "Christ in Modern Life.’’ The sermon at the First Pres byterian church Sunday morn ing will be “In the Beginning, God.” This will be held at 11 a.m. The anthem, "Cherubic Hymn,” will be sung by the senior choir. The topic of the 7:30 evening service is "Enthusiasm of Jesus.” H. Sterling Howard will give a marimba solo and Ruth Sprecher will sing accompanied by the pi ano and marimba. Evening meetings will be held at 6 for intermediates and jun iors, for the young people in the chapel under the leadership of Mona Daniels, and at Westmin ster house for students. Westminster foundation is hold ing open house after the game Saturday afternoon for all stu dents, parents, and visitors. A so cial hour of friendly chats and tea are on the program. At 9:30 Sunday morning Dick Thomas will lead the service on the gen W elcome Alums Stop in after the game to talk over “old times’’ with our delicious and tasty foods and all kinds of luscious drinks and ice cream. Wesley students joining the subdistrict Methodist Youth con ference which is to be held in Springfield this Sunday. Approx imately nine towms near Eugene will be represented and four of the district officers will be pres ent to conduct discussion groups. Professor A. B. Cromwell of the Northwest Christian college will be guest speaker. Leslie Brockel bank is chairman of this subdis trict and is in charge of the meet ing.
