Military Class Schedule Set The schedule of military or ganization and national defense lectures has been released by the University extension division. The courses, which have no pre requisites, are offered to acquaint citizens with the organization and functions of the branches of the American military system. No quizzes or examinations are entailed. Headed by Captain Benjamin F. Davis, assistant professor of military science and tactics, the courses will begin October 16 at 7:15 p.m. in room 101 of the phy sical education building. Admis sion price for the full course will be $3 and 75 cents will be charged for a single lecture. The schedule follows: October 16 — Military Educa tion. Colonel R. M. Lyon, infan try. October 23—Military Organi zation and Operations. Captain Benjamin F. Davis, infantry. Organization and Operation of Eugene Filter Center. Lieutenant Ray F. Siegenthaler, air corps. October 30—Aviation: Then and Now. Colonel J. L. Stromme, air corps. Nov. 6—Field Artillery. Lieu tenant Colonel A. M. Sheets, field artillery. The Engineer Corps. Major H. J. Hoeffer, corps of Engineers. November 13—Cavalry and the Armored Forces. Major Merle Hitchkiss, cavalry. November 20—Characteristics of Infantry Weapons and Funda mentals of Rifle Marksmanship. Captain Harvey Blythe, infantry. Date is to be arranged for ad ditional laboratory meeting, which deals with rifle marksman ship, including practice firing under Captains Blythe and Davis. Physical Ed Majors Offered New Courses A. new course in physical sci ence survey, including primarily the study of chemistry and phys ics. has been organized for phys ical education majors under the science department this year, ac cording to Professor A. YWCA Heads Outline Plans Plans which YWCA group leaders have formulated for their groups were outlined Tuesday af ternoon at the “YW” cabinet meeting. New members on the cabinet were introduced as follows: Marie Morgan, girl reserve; Gerd Han sen, frosh commission president; Betty Kincaid, sophomore com mission president; and Margaret DeCou, town and gown. Food Sale on Campus Elaine McFarlane will be in charge of a doughnut and cider sale to be held on the campus the week preceding Hallowe’en. Part of the money from this sale will go towards sending a dele gate to the national YWCA as sembly which is held once every four years. Eleanor French, a national of ficer, is to be present at the re gional council meeting Octover 24 and 25 and will be on the Univer sity campus Monday, October 27. In order to make sure of a cou ple of sets of goal posts when the Oregon-California game rolls around on Saturday, Manager Jim Richardson has decided to post guards near the uprights during the Rooks’ game Friday. Magazines Reviewed Barbara Hampson and Fran ces McCarty reviewed two YW magazines, “Inter-Collegian” and “Women’s Press.” Michi Yasui led the devotional program and Lois Nordling gave a short sum mary of the aims and purposes of a campus “YW.” Special Train Leaves Friday Oregon’s special train will leave Eugene at 12:15 p.m. Fri day, October 17, to carry the van gard of Ducks to Portland for the Oregon-California game. Early birds will be trailed by rooters leaving on Lhe other Fri day train at 5:10 p.m. A Satur day train will pull out at 8:20 a.m. bearing the rest of the root ing section to the big t^wn in time for the opening whistle. Special fares are offered, ac cording to announcement made by the rally committee, rates be ing $2.89 round trip. The returning rally train will leave the Portland union station Sunday, October 19, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets and information may be obtained at the booth stationed on Thirteenth street between Oregon and Commerce buildings. Two home economics freshmen at Syracuse university have “commuted” from Puerto Rico to schools in the United States for four years.
