Studio Seeks College Song Contest Will Select Number lor Movie 'Campus Rhythm' From the Hal Roach studios in Culver City, California, comes the announcement of a contest among the colleges of the nation to discover a popular song to he included in the score of their forthcoming production, “Cam pus Rhythm.” This song may be either a bal lad, a swing, or a novelty num ber. To the composer of the most outflanding number submitted, Hal Roach studios will pay $250. If the song is published, the writer or writers will also be en titled to the usual and customary royalties paid by the publisher thereof to authors and compos ers. The committee of judges in cludes Hoagy Carmichael, Leroy Prinz, and Hal Roach, and the number chosen will become the property of the Hal Roach stu dios. All other entries will be re turned. Since production on “Campus Rhythm” begins on June 6, all entries must be at the Hal Roach studios (addressed to Ruth Burch) before midnight of Wed nesday, May 28, 1941, and an nouncement of winners will be made as soon thereafter as pos sible. YWCA Breakfast Set For Sunday The annual junior-senior break fast, sponsored by the YWCA, will take place Sunday at 9 o’ clock at the Osburn hotel. Purpose of this affair is to honor graduating women. All sen ior women are invited to attend, whether or not they are escorted by a junior. Mrs. Jane Thacher, professor of piano, will be guest speaker at the breakfast. Others on the pro gram include: Lois Nordling, wel come; Jean Crites, response; and Mrs. E. E. DeCou, bon voyage. Tickets are now on sale in all women’s living organizations at 50 cents each. Ticket sellers are asked to return their unsold tick ets to Marilyn Marshall, tomor row night. According to Kathleen Brady, general chairman, the decorations will be spring flowers in pastel colors. Three musical numbers are be ing arranged for by Jean Griffith. Phi Delta Kappa Adds Six Initiates Phi Delta Kappa, men’s profes sional education fraternity, in ducted into the organization Alva W. Graham, principal of the Hill side school in Portland and grad uate student of the University of Oregon; Lincoln McClellan, Lo gan, Utah, graduate student in physical education; Lawrence Moffett, superintendent of schools for Lane county; Chester R. Dun can, director of music for Port land public schools; Harold A. York, vice-principal of Lincoln high school in Portland; and J. M. Childers, principal of the Kel logg school in Portland. Announced at the same time was election of officers for the year 1941-42. They were S. E. Williamson, president; Harry Johnson, vice-president; Dr. Har old Bernard, secretary; Maurice Weis, treasurer; J. A. Holaday, historian; Howard Backus, news letter editor.
