This organ ization incorporates the voices of Oregon athletes who have earned letters in major sports, and turns them into a well blended two-part harmony. Pictured here rehearsing “You Are My Sunshine,” the singers sang “I was Seeing Nellie Home” to the photographer as an encore. Fete Queen, '41 Model, Hails From Lei-Land By JOHNNY KAHANANUI Out of the near east of yester day, with its profound awe of the mystic, with its dazzling opu lence and ornate splendor, came the theme of the University of Oregon’s 1941 Junior Weekend— “The Arabian Nights." From Ha waii, “the loveliest fleet of is lands 'anchored in any ocean,’’ some 3,000 miles from Eugene across surging expanses of blue Pacific came a dazzlingly beauti ful girl, with brown silken tresses and fathomless walnut eyes to rule over an Oregon campus gone Arabian during Junior Weekend —Annabelle Dow . . . Queen An nabels I. When the S.S. Lurline weighed anchor and slowly drifted out of Honolulu harbor this fall, Miss Dow buried her face in a myriad of leis, tears Of sorrow trickling over dark eyelashes, fond fare wells and strains of “Aloha Oe’’ ringing in her ears. She didn't know then that one day those tears would he more than compensated for, that among other things, she would be No. 1 personage on the campus during the University’s most celebrated weekend. Born in Kahuku, on the Island of Oahu, 20 years ago, the 5 feet 6 inch queen is a regal portrait of languid tropical beauty on which the throbbing vivacity of the Pacific Northwest has made an appreciable etch, all this on 120 pounds of cultured feminin ity. “Gee! Gee whiz! Gee!” That's all Miss Dow could muster when (Please turn to page fii'c) Judges Announce Four Princesses Helen AngelL Jean Burt, Barbara Neu, .
