Moms, Kids Receive Sheepskins Together When the 1940 diplomas are presented at annual graduation ceremonies this spring there will be, in at least two classes, a mother and her child graduating at the same time. Miss Ruth Richardson, of the Oregon campus, will have com pleted her course in English at the same time that her mother, Mrs. John Y. Richardson, will re ceive her Bachelor of Law from Northwestern Law school in Portland. Mrs. Richardson al ready has her Master’s degree and has been very active in Portland civic affairs. She is national chairman for Americanism for the D.A.R. and is on the citize?i committee for the Juvenile Court of Multnomah county. Receiving their diplomas at the same time from the same school along with about 625 other Oregon graduating classmen will be Mrs. Cherry O. Hutchison, graduating from the school of music at the same time that her son is receiving his diploma from the Business Administration school. Mrs. Hutchison has attended classes at Columbia and New York Universities and the Port land Extension center before at tending the University. She is a member of Mu Phi and Phi Beta, music honoraries, and the orches tra. She plays the violin and piano. Her son, William, comes back this year to graduate after work ing for the First National bank in Portland. Mr. Hutchison be longed to Alpha Kappa Psi, ac counting honorary, when he was here on the campus four years ago. H. Gilbert, chairman of the commencement committee. A benefit tea for the Pauline Potter Homer collection in the University library browsing room will be held from 3 to 5 Friday afternoon, June 7. Saturday, June 8, the annual meeting and breakfast of the state association of University of Oregon Women will be held at the Osburn hotel. President’s Reception Saturday noon all seniors wear ing caps and gowns will be ad mitted to the University luncheon at the John Straub hall free. Friends and alumni may attend for a 50 cent plate charge. The Presidents reception will be held in alumni hall at 3:30 Saturday afternoon. In the even ing reunion dinners will be held at places designated by class officers at 6 p.m. Classes return ing are the 1880, 1890, 1900, 1910, 1935, 1920, and 1930. Six students have signified their intention of taking part in the Failing-Beek man orations to be held in the music auditorium at 8 p.m. Baccalaureate Services Sunday, June 9, baccalaureate services will be held at 11 a.m. Dr. James R. Branton, professor of religion, will give the address entitled “Education and Social Responsibility. ’ ’ Commencement at 8 o’clock The commencement exercises will be held at 8 p.m. The address will be given by President Donald M. Erb, who will speak on “The Price of Freedom.” No honorary degrees will be given this year, contrary to past practices. Seniors Receive Positions in Firm Verdi Sederstrom, Charles Skinner, and Norman Lyman re ceived appointments with Mont gomery Ward and company, Miss Janet Smith, head of the Univer sity employment bureau, an nounced yesterday. Interviewed by R. W. Oaks, personnel manager of the Oak land division, the three Oregon men will go into the firm at the end of the present academic year.
