Co-op Groups Take Barker Awards Again Campbell Co-op, Women's Club Top Scholastic Lists Cooperative houses again cap tured the Burt Brown, Barker vice-presidential cups, awarded yesterday to men’s and women’s living organizations attaining the highest scholastic average for the preceding year. Campbell Co-op took the an nual men’s cup, with Sigma hall second. The women’s cup was won by the Women’s Co-op club, with Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority second. The Women’s Co-op have won for four consecutive years. Last year they gained permanent pos session of one cup and the new award is one step toward another. Campbell Co-op’s triumph was its second in succession. The cups are an annual award made by Burt Brown Barker, vice-president of the University. -‘‘Springtime in Vienna” The College of the City of New York has the largest ROTC vol untary unit in the nation. •— Freshmen to Apply Annual 'O'Paint Job The class of '43, fired by the exhortations of its president, Les Anderson, at the campus lunch eon yesterday, will be preparing the final chapter of its first school year at 8:15 this morning. At that time the Order of the “O” will escort them to Skinner's butte for the painting of the huge Oregon “O.” All freshmen are expected to be at Villard hall at 8:15. Obstacle Seen Generally speaking, freshmen become sophomores this week end, but, according to reports, they will leave a bloody trail be hind them. The sophomores, boasting an undefeated record, will place a serious obstacle in the way of a frosh victory. Soph omore Class President Bob Calk ins promised. Dunking at 10 All member of the two under classes have been asked to be at the millrace, near Villard hall, when two squads of 18 men each will meet at 10 o’clock. In the en suing “affair of dishonor” one side will get wet. If previous years’ results are an indication, the sophomores will get the dous ing, Don Turner of the traditions committee commented. Concen trated combat will then evolve into guerilla warfare, with scat tered bands of raiders dashing off to the millrace with doomed cap tives. Led by Ralph Lafferty, Older of the “O” lifesavers will keep a watchful eye on the skirmishers to make sure that no blitzkriegs are carried too far. -“Springtime in Vienna” Radio Will Present Salute to Weekend A salute to Junior Weekend, giving a history of the event and details of the present Weekend, will be made on the Mutual Don Lee broadcasting system during the Wing’s Saturday night party from 9:15 to midnight tonight, it was announced yesterday by Day Foster, program director of KORE. Telegrams of congratulation will be read from Donald Erb, president of the University; Donald McCormick, president of the Oregon alumni association; Mayor Elisha Large of Eugene; Carl Bergman, Eugene chief of police; Fred Stickles, president of the Eugene chamber of com merce, and other dignitaries. Union Display Open For Visiting Moms Student union disp’ay material will be open for inspection by visiting parents today from 1 un til 2 o’clock, Glenn Williams, frosh union committee chairman, announced yesterday. The dis play is located in the Student Union room, lower floor of John son hall. “The display will be of espe cial interest to Oregon parents in that they may see how student activities are centralized in other colleges,” Williams said. Plans, drawings, and illustra tions from the union buildings of several major universities are in cluded in the exhibit. Future campus expansion is graphically depicted in a drawing by F. A. Cuthbert, associate professor of landscape architecture. The drawing shows the loca tion where the Oregon Dads’ wrought-iron gates will be erect ed and the proposed mall extend ing from the entrance to the li brary.
