Betty Buchanan
From her place as just another
Oregon coed, pretty Betty Buch
anan will step Friday noon into
a mythical kingdom of old Vi
enna, to be re-creater for three
days on the Oregon campus.
Petite little Queen Betty, better
known by her friends as “Bucky,”
will wear as her royal robes a
quaint white dress fashioned of
yards and yards of dotted swiss.
The crown will be placed on her
brown curls, which will be brush
ed high off her brow.
Sparkling grey eyes and a dem
ocratic smile promise a happy
reign for Queen Betty II, of Sa
lem, as she waves her scepter
over the down-to-earth Univer
sity of Oregon and creates
“Springtime in Vienna.”
The tiny 20-year-old monarch,
who stands only five feet three,
will attend her royal ball Friday
night, the annual Junior Prom,
with Wendell Wyatt.
Princess
Laura Jean Maurice
Striking brunette beauty is
Laura Jean Maurice’s claim to
royalty, for this princess of the
court of the Viennese kingdom
has shining brunette locks, pulled
back in soft curls from a center
part. Dignity and friendliness mix
together pleasantly in her brown
eyes.
Her dress will be made of pink
dotted swiss, made into an old
fashioned gown similar to that of
the queen. The gowns are all de
signed along the lines of the
Austrian pinafore, with a square
neck and perky shoulder ruffles.
The 21-year-old coed who will
live in a dream kingdom from
May 10 to 12 will be dancing Fri
day night with Les Ready, whose
pin she wears.
Princess Suzanne
Cunningham
Olive-skinned Suzanne Cun
ningham, chic little 19-year-old
princess, will look down on the
University of Oregon undergrads
thronged at her feet, in a royal
dress of pink, just like that of
Princess Laura Jean.
Only five feet four, Suzanne is
every bit alive, and large hazel
eyes smile at many campus ac
quaintances, for she is popular
and well-known.
Her lovely tan gives her away
as a sports enthusiast, and her
ATO pin makes it known that
she’ll be dancing with Bob Hoch
uli Friday night.
Princess
Eleanor Collier
Gracious Eleanor Collier is the
only blonde of the 1940 Weekend
court, and her light skin, topped
by short blonde curls, gives a dig
nified type of beauty. Blue eyes
that are friendly and a smile that
one remembers helped to get
Princess Eleanor on the royal
court, and those same atributes
will make her a popular princess.
She’ll wear a light blue dotted
swiss dress of the same design as
that of the other girls when the
court makes its first appearance.
She is five feet eight inches tall,
and is 20 years old.
Fred Ehlers will take time off
from his directing of the canoe
fete to escort her to the Prom
Friday evening.

Janet Foster
A blue dress to match her eyes
will be the costume of Princess
Janet Foster, tall stately coed,
who will be the fifth member of
the Junior Weekend court. You’d
expect blonde hair with that, but
Janet is an unusual girl, and so
she startles you with brown
locks pulled back from her fore
head in a middle-parted hair dress
that is striking because of sim
plicity.
Twenty years old, Princess
Janet is a Washington contribu
tion to the kingdom of Vienna,
where girls in Austrian pinafores
will keynote her kingdom of ad
mirers.
But also admiring Janet will be
Roger Conrad, who is to be her
escort at the Prom.
