    Friday Tea
To Honor
Mothers
Members of the YWCA, AWS,
and Eugene Mothers club will en
tertain all mothers on the campus
Friday afternoon in the newly
redecorated sunroom of Gerlinger
hall. Barbara Fulton is student
chairman working with Mrs.
Howard Taylor, chairman from
the mothers organization.
Eastern birch furniture, chosen
by Dean Earl and committee, re
places the wicker chairs used in
Gerlinger for 20 years. Sixteen
tables, 20 love seats and 20 chairs
make the sunroom an attractive
place for teas and a smoking
room for dances and college sup
pers. The chairs and tables are
built in six designs with water
proof finish. Variation and color
is given the room by upholstery
of striped, flowered, and tweed
designs.
Committees for Tea
The committees for the events
are headed by Phyllis Sander,
food; Eleanor Nelson, decora
tions; Patricia Vandenynde, pro
gram ; and Kathrine Brady, clean
up. House mothers have been
asked to pour and Phi Theta Up
silon pledges will serve.
The Delta Tau Delta trio com
posed of Cy Nims, Paul Ekelman,
and George Drach will appear on
the program.
Musicians Have
Three Programs
During Week

celebrated on the campus with
three major programs. Monday

in their annual concert at the mu

Tuesday evening members and
alumni of Phi Beta, music hon

Tonight Mu Phi Epsilon, music

TICK TOCK
(March of Time)
My Dear Miss 1899,
Just a line to let you know
I am giving you the well
known “kiss-off.” Spring has
sprung and ye old mill race
is calling me. But if you think
for t one minute that I would
step my big toe in a canoe
dressed as you see fit, you are
a wee bit cra-a-azy. Imagine
trying to balance a hot house
of wild flowers and butterflies
on my head and paddle a canoe
at the same time! That veil
you wear reminds me of a
canary cake; I would just as
soon let my hair down and see
vhere I was going than to have
those black spots playing hop
skotch before my eyes. Gee,
don’t you almost choke with
that veil twisted under your
chin as tight as possible and
tucked into that formidably
high collar, rising in peaks on
the side clear up to your mas
toid bone ?
Why all the distortion? You
might just as well enter the
torture chamber as advocate
that “kangaroo bend.” Go
ahead and have your fun and
see if I care; this is life, this
is America, this is Oregon,
this is Eugene; Freedom is
here today, so take it while
you may.
If I fall in now it won’t
make an difference because to
me canoeing calls for sunshine
and a bathing suit . . . and I
do mean a 1940 model.
Wondering if I’ll ever see
you again.
MISS 1940.
