Junior Weekend Will ‘Go to Portland* Soon April 28 Set As Date for Publicity Trip Queen, Court, Student Talent To Make Journey Junior Weekend will go to Portland on Monday, April 28, instead of May 4, as was pre viously planned, John Cavanagh, weekend promotion chairman, announced last night. Weekend committee heads con tacted the Eugene chamber of commerce yesterday and with the cooperation of Fred Brenne, secretary of the chamber, made arrangements to take members of the royal court, some student talent, and Junior Weekend com Eight Men Pledged To Beta Alpha Psi Eight pledges to Beta Alpha Psi, national accounting honor ary, will be initiated Wednesday. The new pledges—Robert Chil cote, Jack Shimshak, Pete Igoe, Richard D. Johnson, Arnold Oino non, Max Herndon, James M. Bailey, and Lloyd Wilson—have successfully passed an examina tion on accounting theory which is a pre-requisite to initiation. Following the initiation cere monies, a banquet will be held to honor the new members at the Anchorage. Spencer Collins, certi fied public accountant, will be the principal speaker at the banquet. UO Student Wins Prize in Contest Held at Portland Beth Johnson, psychology ma jor, won first prize in the second biology section of the Oregon Stu dent Science conference held in Portland last weekend. Miss John son's paper was titled “Stereo scopic Vision in Pre-School Child ren.” Six other graduate students from the anthropology and psy chology departments attended the conference. Carl Huffaker, an thropology, and Wilbur Greenup, geography, collaborated on a pa per named, “The Northern Great Basin and Early Man.” Greenup discussed the geomorphology and Huffaker the archeology of the basin. Bob Stephenson, anthro pology, gave a “progress report in cataloging a collection of southwestern material.” Robin Drews, anthropology, read a pa per on “Ainu: Position in the Pa cific Basin.” A paper concerning the galvanic response was offered by A1 Carp and William Cass from the psychology department, and Gordon Link talked on “Mir ror Script in Infancy.” Co-op Board to Be Nominated Friday All of the 3100-odd University students are eligible to attend the annual meeting of members of the University of Oregon Cooper ative store this Friday at 4 p.m. in room 207 Chapman. Candidates for a position on the board of directors will be nom inated at this time, and the an nual report of the manager, M. F. McClain, will be read. mittee heads to Portland for an appearance before the Portland chamber of commerce. To Entertain Hosts The weekend committee will cooperate with the local cham ber in the presentation of "Eu gene Day’’ before the Portland group. The Eugene delegation will entertain their hosts, who will receive formal invitations to visit the Oregon campus to wit ness the spring term three-day spectacle, Cavanagh said. Junior Weekend leaders com mented with appreciation on the manner in which the chamber of commerce had extended assist ance to the committee. Brenne of the Eugene chamber will help arrange the junior class’s con tribution to the trip, Cavanagh stated. Salem Stop Listed The “caravan” will stop in Sa lem on its way to Portland long enough to invite Charles A. Sprague, governor of the state, to come to see the University's three-day pageant. A trip to Portland for commit tee members and donors of tal ent for the weekend radio broad casts over stations KGW-KEX and KOIN has been scheduled for Saturday, May 4.
