Gene Coy’s Black Aces to Play tor SDX Hop Sweet Swing, Novelties, Will Be Featured Colored Orchestra Has Played Over National Hookups Thirteen won’t be bad luck, at least, not for campus dancers, when Gene Coy's 13 Black Aces present their sweet swing April 13, at the Sigma Delta Chi spring term dance in McArthur court. Coy was selected by the organ ization to play for the affair last night, culminating a long and thorough search for a satisfactory orchestra. Coy will bring several novelty features, which have gone over big, especially with college audiences, Max Frye, promotion chairman for the dance, said. Among these will be characterizations of “Old Man Mose Is Dead" and “Smokey Joe.” “He’s expected to be the succes sor of Duke Ellington, Jimmie Lunceford, and Count Basie as the top colored band in the country,” Frye said. Coy’s Black Aces have played over several national hookups, in cluding NBC, CBS, and Mutual. “Coy has ‘wowed’ audiences all over the country,” Frye said. Coy plays the drums. Houses to Get Fete Partners Each Organization Must Select Own Chairman Soon Men’s and women’s living or ganizations who have announced their intentions of building floats for the Junior Weekend canoe fete Saturday night, May 11, will re ceive pairings at 4 o’clock Friday, April 5, Fred Ehlers, canoe fete chairman, announced yesterday. Each organization must select its chairman to be in charge of its float, Ehlers said. This chairman must be present at the meeting which will be held at the College Side. The representatives will draw to determine pairings. The women’s houses deciding to build floats are: Alpha Omicron Pi, Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Phi, Al pha Xi Delta, Alpha Chi Omega, Sigma Kappa, Delta Delta Delta, Chi Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi. The men’s organizations which Will enter the float competition are Yeomen, Sigma Alpha Mu, Delta Tau Delta, Delta Upsilon, Phi Sigma Kappa. Beta Theta Pi, Phi Kappa Psi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Chi, and Alpha Tau Omega. Westminster Hike Scheduled Today Under the direction of Red An derson, a group will leave West minster house at 4 o’clock this af ternoon for a short hike to Spenc er’s butte. Paper bag lunches are in order. Anyone is welcome to attend this hike, but those planning to attend should notify Red Anderson at Westminster house in order to have transportation to and from the place where the hike starts. 'Idiot's Delight' Has Large Cast Winner of the Pulitzer prize in 1936, presented on the New York stage and the Hollywood screen, “Idiot’s Delight,” assembles the largest cast of characters which has been seen this year on the cam pus in a student play. It will be produced behind the footlights of the University theater April 12, 13, and 16. Gerry Smith takes the leading male role of Harry Van, opposite Helene Parsons as Irene.
