Eugene, Ore. Chi O-Sigma Chi Float to Satirize Croquet Scene By JIMMIE LEONARD “Alice thought she had never seen such a curious croquet ground in her life: it was all ridges and furrows: the croquet balls were live hedgehogs, and the mallets live flamingoes, and the soldiers had to double themselves up and stand on their hands and feet, to make the arches. The players all played at once, without waiting for turns, quarreling all the while, and fight ing for the hedgehogs; and in a very short time the Queen was in a furious passion . . . And again Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” has offered the' theme of a Junior Weekend float. Sigma Chi and Chi Omega are capitalizing upon' the scene describing "The Croquet Game” for their float. Dorothy Ash, Chi O representative, and Ed Wallis and Glenn Briedwell, Sigma Chi work ers, will design a float from that conglomeration of fantasy. But with the memory of past canoe fetes, the new achievements in the way of decorating, the music of Art Holman, and a UO-type of bringing a lunch from home. Ma jors should sign up on the sheet on the bulletin board so that the committee may know how many to plan for, Tom Potter, president of the Allied Arts league, said. It was decided that each stu dent will be allowed to bring a friend to the outing. imagination, it won’t be difficult for spectators to find the intended understanding. Political Satire Politics being a fertile field for satire these days, the Chi O-Sigma Chi delegation will inject a smat tering of international burlesque into their offering. The United States will represent one side in the croquet-game; the other side— but that would be telling. What a game!' Kappa Alpha Theta and Kappa Sigma are sponsoring the float that will pass the canoe fete stage Saturday night at .8:30 o'clock. Their float theme will be "The Lion and the Unicom,” taken from “Alice in Wonderland.” Must Watch Fight Off all things, that-could happen, Queen Maxine- must ■ witness a fight. Remember the Lioniand Uni com ? They will satirize two of the "square-shooting” agencies in our government: ,!-T'he Lion and the- Unicorn were % fighting for the crown: The Lion beat the Unicorn all round the town. Some gave them white bread, some gave them brown: Some gave them plum-cake and drummed them out of town.” Two girls from the Theta house —Helen Chesnut and Janet Fost er— are working with Kappa Sig ma’s Joe Beach and Dick Alcott in the preparation of the float.
