Oregon Military Squad Impresses Army Man Favorably Special ROTC Drill Team Viewed, Okayed by Major The competition company, 10 o’clock section of first and second year military students upon whom rests most of Oregon’s chances of winning the Governor’s trophy on May 25, was accredited as being one of the best college drill squads in the Northwest, by Major W. C. Moore after his annual inspection of ROTC headquarters yesterday. Major Moore was appointed by the commander of the 9th corps area. He made the inspection last year. “I think that the drill teams show a considerable improvement over last year,” he stated, “They seem to be doing very well here with the facilities available.” Monday Major Moore viewed j the class rooms and drilling of the first and second year basic squads. The advance courses occupied most of his attention today. The major has served for 21 years in the service of the U. S. army, two years being spent at Vancouver barracks in Vancouver, Washington. He saw service in the Philippines and Panama Canal zone, also serving as an instructor in the army infantry school dur ing the world war. After his inspection of the ad vance courses yesterday, Major Moore met with a few of the stu dents to discuss the appointments available under the recently passed Thomas act which allows Oregon four regular appointments to the army. He was the guest of Major W., A. Wappenstein during his two day inspection here.
