Oregon Men Take Firm Stand
In Their Dislikes About Women
By BETTY HAMILTON
“The affectionate girl with a veil; like kissing someone through
a fence.”
“When the escort reaches for a radish and finds only his girl’s
red fingernails.”
“Twisted seams in hose.”
“Sun smeared powder.”
Twenty Oregon men have definite ideas about these and other
things they dislike about women. Each man interviewed went into
the lengthy detail about his pet peeves, covering everything from
clothing to the “College Side old maids.”
Bi ight red finger nails, bleached hair, forced smiles and attempts
at being “cute" to attract mascu
line attention, were named as
peeves by these boys. They agreed
that girls who giggle, talk baby
talk, or swear are on their “list.”
“Nothing is worse than going
out with a girl who is continually
saying, “I did this and I did that,
etc," was given as a pet peeve by
one of the boys.
Gossips Disliked
“Did you ever listen to this sort
of thing, ‘She said to me and I
told her that he, etc.?” asked an
other disgusted male. The conclu
sion to be drawn is that most men
dislike girls who gossip and who
are forever talking about them
selves.
Short dresses and knee-high hose
were brought up continually. Even
a professor chose to remark in a
discussion carried on after class,
“When the girls file into the class,
proceed to sit down and cross their
legs, I feel like suggesting that
they are ‘big’ girls now and to
please lengthen, their dresses.”
Most of the boys agreed that short
dresses looked all right on some
girls but “Would the chubby va
riety please lengthen their dress
es?”
Moderate Smokers Preferred
The question was raised, “Why;
do women, when taken out to din
ner, smoke one cigarette after an
other until our appetite is lost be
cause of the incessant fumes?”
These boys prefer women who are
moderate in their smoking and
who will curb the desire if their
escort isn’t a cigarette hound.
In regards to the local hang
outs, “Why do all the unattached
girls sit in the College Side from,
morn to night as if they are wait
ing for something to come along ?’♦
This subject was the biggest peeve.
Every boy mentioned it. Their
opinion was that every time they
saw four “old maids” playing
bridge and consuming one cigar
ette after another they wondered
what the college was coming to.
“I don’t mind seeing girls in the
Side without escorts, but when
they play bridge or sit around and
stare for hours at a time, it makes
me wonder why they are in this
