Professor Howard Will
Speak at Peace Forums
To Be Held on Campus
Final preparations were made yesterday for the program of con
structive peace education that has grown out of the youth peace move
ment at the University of Oregon with the securing of Charles G,
Howard, law school professor, as one of the faculty, speakers on
armament budgets.
All students at the University who wish to discuss or join the
attempt to find methods of peace education may attend the series of
forums on America’s internation
al policy, raw material and popu
lation pressure, and peace and
war propaganda, to be held in
Gerlinger hall beginning at 3
o’clock in the afternoon next Tues
day and Wednesday.
Assembly Speaker Contributes
Lieutenant - Commander Bryant,
who is to speak at the ASUO
assembly at 10 o’clock Wednesday
morning, will contribute the last
phase of this united effort toward
peace when he presents his obser
vations on “The Far Eastern Con
flict, the Causes, Consequences and
Our Defense.”
Tentative plans of the committee
In charge of the movement provid
ed for the addition of Dr. Calvin
Crumbaker, economics professor,
to the group for the consideration
of armaments budgets.
Other faculty members who will
take part with students in the con
ference are Dr. E. Hargis, Dr.
Charles G. Howard, Dr. Calvin
Crumbaker, Dr. James D. Barnett,
Dr. Waldo Schumacher, Dr. E. H.
Moore, Dr. W. D. Smith, A. L.
Lomax, Dean Eric W. Allen, and
Professor S. Stephenson Smith.
Marion DeKoning is chairman of
the committee. Mrs. John Stark
Evans, adviser of the YWCA;
Francis Beck, YMCA adviser, and
Dr. Victor P. Morris of the law
school are assisting committee
members.
Radio Comedienne Grade Allen
is offering a bearskin prize as an
Award of Ingenuity to the man
graduating from college with the
low'est marks.
Ex-Student Draws
Fellowship Award
William Hall, graduate, ’36, has
won a preservice fellowship in
public administration at the Uni
versity of Minnesota for the school
year 1938-39.
* Hall was very prominent on the
Oregon campus as an undergrad
uate. He was winner of the Al
bert and Koyl cups, was a Phi Beta
Kappa, Friar, and is a brother of
the present student body presi
dent, Barnard Hall. He has been
a research assistant for the Bureau
of Municipal Research since grad
uation.
Beta Alpha Psi Will
HoldReunionToday
A reunion of the alumni and
undergraduate members of Beta
Alpha Psi, accounting honorary
society, will be held on the cam
pus today.
At a business meeting today at
4 o’clock, 14 undergraduates will
be pledged to the honorary. They

cafe with Calvin Crumbaker, pro
fessor of economics, as speaker.

on “The Economic Effects of the
Proposed Tax on Federal Em
ployees and Federal Bonds.’'
