Nash Is Principal Speaker at Luncheon
Library Conditions Are Discussed by the
Representatives of Oregon Libes
Approximately 115 librarians convened yesterday in the new Uni
versity of Oregon library for a record district meeting of the Oregon
State Library association, headed by Harriet C. Long, state librarian.
John Henry Nash was principal speaker at luncheQn in the Anchor
age after a morning spent in discussing the condition of libraries in
Oregon, based on a recent survey of the field by Morris Isseks of
the Bureau of Municipal research.

\ talks by Miss Ethel Sawyer, brows
ing room librarian, and by Mrs.

department of the Portland library

At 3:30 delegates inspected the
John Henry Nash collection, now
displayed in the library, and were
• ^served, tea by the library staff be
fore leaving Eugene for their re
spective homes.
Phi Beta Kappa to
Install New Chapters
Dr. George Rebec, dean of the
graduate division, and S. Stephen
son Smith, professor of English,
Will leave for Reed college today
to attend installation ceremonies
of Phi Beta Kappa, national scho
lastic honorary, on that campus.
Until the present time there has
.been no Phi Beta Kappa chapter
at Reed.
, Dean Rebec and Mr. Smith will
join in many of the discussion
groups that will be held there.

The write-in threat failed to
materialize as Staiger and the rest
of his coalition frosh ticket went I
in without contest. Elected were
Staiger, president; Barbara Pierce,
Vice-president; Jean Kneass, sec
retary; and Lloyd Sullivan, treas
urer. Plenty of write-ins were in
evidence, but lack of grouping ,
nullified their effect in the frosh
election.

Dr. Smith Writes on
Oregon Wonders
A bulletin entitled “Oregon
Geologic and Wild Flower Won
derland,” has been written by Dr.
Warren D. Smith, head of the de
partments of geography and geol
ogy at the University of Oregon,
and Dr. Helen Gilkey, associate
professor of botany of Oregon
State college.
The booklet, lavishly illustrated
in color, was issued by the travel
and information department of
the Oregon state highway com
mission.
Dr. Erb's Wife
Will Arrive on
Campus Today
Mrs. Donald M. Erb, wife of
the president of the University,
will arrive in Eugene at 9
o’clock this morning for a four
day stay and will be honor guest
at all the official Junior week
end functions.
This trip will be Mrs. Erb’s
first visit to the Oregon campus
since her husband was installed
as president of the University.
Miss Jepson to Be
Interviewed on Air
Arrangements have been com
pleted to broadcast an interview
with Helen Jepson Sunday morn
ing at 11 o’clock from the Eugene
studios of station KORE.
Miss Jepson, famed Metropoli
tan opera star, who is appearing
in concert at the Igloo Sunday af
ternoon, will be interviewed on a
special edition of the Emerald
News Review, according to Dolph
Janes, news commentator of the
University program.
University of Pittsburg students
are now working on their second
all campus movie.
