To Star in 'Peer Gynt'
Lorraine Hixson—will play the part of Solveig in Ibsen’s specta
cle which opens Tuesday, April 26.
The Coed of the Week
LORRAINE HIXSON
By BERNADINE BOWMAN
The demand for more information about Lorraine Hixson, femi
nine lead in “Peer Gynt,” sent us scuttling out to track down this
very busy girl.
For the benefit of the two women who climbed all the way up
the stairs to the Kennell-Ellis studios to find out if the girl whose
picture was being displayed was 12 or 15 years old—she is neither.
She is 19, and is five feet three and one half inches tall.
Lorraine, at present, is living and dreaming “Peer Gynt.” She
fact that is all she wanted to talk
about. And after days and days
of at least three-hour rehearsals,
she’s still enthusiastic (by special
request we are not to say thrilled
or excited, although she is all
three).

Has Lovely Voice
In describing Lorraine a coed
said she was “one of those delecta
ble blondes,” and we agree. Her
large brown eyes and lovely voice
can not go unnoticed, however, by
the most casual observed.
The star of “Peer Gynt” is a
music major and a minor in dra
matics. These two activities oc
cupy most of her time, but she
“actually likes poetry.” Shelley
is her favorite poet. And although
she likes to read novels very
imuch she hasn’t read “Gone With
the Wind”!
Lorraine has been singing since
she was four years old. She’s sure
that the first song she ever learned
was “Little Brown Jug How I
Love Thee,” but whether it was
for a school or church program
she couldn’t decide.
Her mother has been an accom
plished musician, and on that side
of the family are a number of ac
tors and actresses. On her fath
er’s side she doesn’t believe she
inherited any of her ability be
cause her “father can’t even whis
tle on key.”
Worked as Shopper
Your Coed of the Week is a
sophomore. She didn’t come back
ito school fall term because she
had a job as a personal shopper in
a Long Beach department store.
She started work in the store as a
clerk and was promoted all within
the six months she was there.
! We think Lorraine must have
been very good in this capacity,
since she is quite willing to be
accommodating as well as being
friendly, and the foxy customer,
