    Lucia Wiley Has
Murals Exhibited
By Artist Society
Grille Offers Praise for
Exceptional Work
In a review in the art section
ot the New York Times, Miss Lu
cia Wiley, who received her mas
ter of fine arts degree from the
University in 1932, was praised for
her mural painting on display in
an exhibition of murals at the
Grand Central galleries, sponsored
by the Mural Painters society.
The following words are taken
from the article, which was writ
ten by Edward Alden Jewell:
“Much that deserves to be com
mented upon will at this time have
to be pasfted over in silence. How
ever, room must be found for men
tion of Lucia Wiley’s altogether
charming panel, ‘The March of
Youth.’ ”
Miss Wiley also received the
purchase prizes for two color
blocks, “Holy Rollers” and “Satur
day night,” in the seventh annual
exhibition of the Northwest Print
makers, now being held in the
Seattle art museum until April

William Bruce, who has been a
leading figure in campus cam

the progress of that movement,
and said that as one who has been

Howard Ohmart concluded the

The campus demonstration con

50 Lost Articles
Remain at Depot
And the Englishman is still
without his monocle ... as are
about fifty students minus every
thing from books, pens, etc., to
evening shoes and kid gloves which
may be recovered by calling at the
University depot where the lost
and found department is located.
The collection there now includes
four raincoats, seven hats (one
with numerous flowers on), shoes,
three scarfs, five umbrellas, about
twenty pairs of wool, cotton and
leather gloves, compacts, fountain
pens, ten notebooks, six English
composition, five accounting, three
literature, and two history books.
All articles not claimed will be
sold at auction later in the term.
Plank played the part of the Ro
man. During the oration student
"senators” shouted out their senti
ments from the crowd, just as in
Shakespeare’s play.
Many Movies Taken
As the affair moved along doz
ens of camera .shutters clicked
During the downtown march mov
ie cameras ground out many feet
of film. Universal News service
had cameramen covering both the
campus demonstration and the pa
rade. Individuals stood on street
corners getting snapshots as the
students filed by.
About 500 fell into the line of
march when the parade began to
move downtown. Dozens of huge
banners and signs dotted the pro
cession, which was four or five
blocks long. A sound car led the
procession and blared forth the
voice of a speaker repeating the
local protest call and appropriate
peace slogans. An American flag
and a Christian flag moved side
by side near the head of the pa
rade.
Many humorous and satirical
signs graced the marching col
umn. One read: "Hearst in war,
Hearst in peace, Hearst in every
news release; spreads his hate and
desolation to improve his circula
tion.” Another said: “The mili
tarist would risk your life for his
country." Still another carried the
words: "War world suicide; ar
bitration world peace.”
Several large pieces of art held
prominent places in the parade.
Under one large sketch showing
burly exploiters stripping the
clothes from a scrawny “taxpayer”
until he had nothing left but his
undershirt, were the words, "Lit
tle man what now?”

85 More Permits
Given to Drivers
Eighty-five new automobile reg
istrations have been granted by
the University automobile service
since the beginning of the spring
term.
Since registrations made during
the winter term were carried over
automatically, this makes a total
of approximately 500 cars regis
tered for driving on the campus,
10 short of the number registered
during the fall term.
Because some students register
to drive any car, there are about
85 more registered drivers than
cars, making a total of 585.
