gether for the first time Edmund
Lowe and Bela Lugosi. This pic
ture was made by Fox from the
current radio story, and is report
ed to be even more thrilling on
the screen than on the air.
Prink Callison and his horde of
heavyweights will be at the Mc
Donald tonight to participate in
the Santa Clara football rally. Ab
bie Green will act as master of
ceremonies and his band will be
the center of attraction. Ray W.
Jones, manager of the Fox-McDon
ald, promises many surprises for
the rally, which goes on the stage
at 0 o’clock.

The story has to do with a young
Austrian count who finds life ex

when war cuts short his romance
with a Viennese flower girl. War
splits them as far apart as the
two poles, but when the devasta
tion is at an end, the new spirit
brings about a reunion and happi
ness.

Reduced enrollment without pro
portionate cut in the faculty thus
making possible smaller classes
with more intimate contact with
faculty members was held respon
sible for the increased opportuni
ties. Students were urged to do
whatever they do with interest,
spirit, and determination, whether
it be classwork or activity work.
The Oregon football team in its
game Saturday will face one of
the best teams on the coast, it was
declared by Coach Prink Callison.
The loyal support of the team in
the way of applause and cheers as
well as attendance at the game
was urged.
Potwin Thanks Students
Art Potwin, chairman of the stu
dent committee opposing the con
solidation bill, thanked students on
behalf of the alumni association
for their work this summer in the
campaign against the measure. A
vigilance committee of 24 students
will start the final movement of
the campaign within the next few
days, it was said. *.
The University band under the
direction of John Stehn played a
song which has recently been com
posed for the student body.

A meeting of the committee on
taxation of public utilities, oi
which Dr. James H. Gilbert, dean
of the social science college, is sec
retary, will take place at the Im
perial hotel in Portland on October
8 for the purpose of filling a va
cancy left by the death of Senator
B. W. Johnson of Monroe.
The secretary will make a pre
liminary report on taxation and
regulation of municipal utilities.
During the spring and summer Dr.
Gilbert has carried on extensive
research on city-owned utilities,
the value of property earnings, and
he has secured the consensus of
opinion among representative cit
izens with regard to taxing city
owned property.
Stafford Attends Meet
Of Science Association
Professor O. F. Stafford, head of
the chemistry department of the
University of Oregon, is attending
an executive committee meeting of
the American Association for the
Advancement of Science at San
Francisco. Details of the conven
tion to be held next year at Salt
Lake City will be discussed, as well
as other minor affairs of the asso
ciation. Professor Stafford will re
turn to Eugene Sunday evening.
