Being Prepared

JNecessary Changes ill
Entries To Be Given
At the ‘Field’
Construction of the new high jump
In ml pole vault apparatus in Mc
Arthur court was well under way
last night, and Bill Hayward was
confident that everything would be
ship-shape for the big meet at 7:00
o’clock tonight. A block of wood,
securely fastened to the floor, and
' < with a special cushion mat under it,
will serve as the brace for the pole
vaultcrs. Both the vaulters and the
high jump entries will come down
from their record-smashing leaps up
on a large canvas bag filled with six
bales of imported hay.
Special attention has been given
to the needs of the fleet-footed
sprinters and distance men. Several
pairs of old track shoes have been
re-soled, by a new process, with
foam rubber. The few preliminary
tryouts given the new footwear yes
terday were extremely satisfactory
and may lead to a new style in in
door track shoes.
Due to an underclass dinner dance
which the Beta Theta Pi fraternity
is having tonight, some of the en
tries named in yesterday’s Emerald
will have to be scratched, and re
cruits drawn from some of the other
houses. Hayward has not yet
named the other men, but all par
ticipants and events will be an
nounced on the floor this evening.
W As the result of tonight’s combats
will hav-e no influence in the winning
of the final mammoth free-for-all in
March, the substitutions from
houses other than those competing
will make no real difference and
will give valuable practice to more
men. These additions to the vari
ous events will also serve to make
the meet more interesting to the
spectators.

Wonder if it isn’t because

they get a little better ser

Anyway a lot of them tell us
that’s why they come here
so we should worry.
