Floats Limited To Even Dozen In Canoe Fete Presentation Undergoes Radical Changes; Expense Cut Only twelve floats will be entered in the Junior Week-End canoe fete this spring, according to an agree ment of the Pan-Hellenic and Inter Fraternity coun H. Socolofslky eils. To make this possible, Herbert" Socolofsky, chair man of the fete, has arranged a plan whereby twelve representa tives will be se lected from the men’s living or ganizations .and women’s living 'organizations. The dozen chos en from each gender will cooperate with partners picked bv lottery from the opposite persuasion. Houses left over will move up the next year and participate, while the houses that are supplanted will re main idle until their turns come again. The possibilities under this plan are enormous. As there are 18 men’s organizations and 23 wom en’s houses, the mill race will be a memory before each house has paired with each other house. Eventually, as the University grows larger and more dormitories and fraternities come into existence, each house will be required to pre sent a float only every other year, or even every third or fourth year, which will make it possible to pre pare new features, and to concen trate time and energy instead of broadsiding it as has been done in the past. The resolutions presented to the Pan-Hellenic and Inter-Fraternitv councils by Socolofsky follow: “WHEREAS, the number of floats entered in fhe Junior Week-End Canoe Fete is considered too largo for successful presentation, arid WHEREAS, a feeling is believed to exist that it has become too great an expense and effort for every organization to enter a float each year, therefore BE IT RESOLVED: that, hence forth the number of floats to be en tered in the Junior Week-End Fete shall be twelve (12), and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that, each organization draw a per manent number which will deter mine the position of order and ro tation of the organizations enter ing floats each year in said Canoe Fete.” McArthur Court Able To Seat 6000; Bears Want Large Crowd Sufficient seats are available for this week’s playoff series with the University of California for the coast basketball championship, to seat comfortably all that are ex pected to attend. The new pavilion has been completed at a very op portune time in view of the coming series. The newly-constructed edifice, fi nanced by student funds,, has an ap proximate seating capacity of 0000. Reserve seats are available for 1000 spectators, the bleachers will accom modate 2000 more, and the balcony is designed to hold 3000. The struc ture has a playing floor, being 94x50 feet in area. The ceiling is 80 feet above the playing floor. Due to a conference ruling, 50 cents will be charged to students for the coming series, and $1.00 will be charged for general admission tickets. Reserved seats are selling for $1.25. Student tickets are now on sale at the Co-op. This ruling was designed to protect the visiting teams, particularly if the series chanced to be played at a school having only a limited seating capac ity. California is carrying a party of 21 players, managers, and coaches, and has a guaranty of $1250 for this purpose, with an option of 50 per cent of the receipts. As it will cost approximately $100 for each mem ber of the party, the Bears are pull- j ing for plenty of gate receipts. Virgil D. Earl, director of ath- : letics, announced yesterday that the ' proposed Pacific coast high school basketball tournament tentatively scheduled for McArthur court some time this month has been called off, because of inability to find a suit able date. He took the number on the butt and went oft1 around the coiner toward the “Co-ed.” This morning George Joseph is being held under suspicion by Sher iff Paul Sayre as the bandit and will await trial in April at the Lane county court house. It was Sheriff Sayre who picked up the gun. He tells this: “The ban dit intended the throw the money bag back of the hedge along the Co-op but it fell short and I found it on the walk. A few minutes later I arrested Joseph coming back from Rheams hall. “Joseph is said to to have ap proached Hyman Samuels yesterday and asked for a loan.
