Dean of Music To Take Second South Seas Trip Dr. Landsbury, Sister To Visit Fijis, Samoa, Hawaii, Tongo Islands Still Free From Commercialization The South Seas, a land of en chantment, of sparkling seas and ex quisite beauty; this is the country that is beckoning with promises of a fascinating vacation. Dr. John J. Landsbury, of the school of music, and Mrs. Landsbury Beck have definitely decided to again visit this bewitching country this summer and are anxious for all who are interested in making such a trip to come and talk with them. Trip Is Inexpensive Last summer Dean Landsbury and Mrs. Keck made this tour and they became so interested in the country that they are again making the tour of the Fiji, Samoan, Hawaiian, and Tongo Islands, personally con ducted by James Lee Wheeler Jr., their guide of last year. Mr. Wheel er is the personal representative of New Zealand and the Island Gov ernments and the representative also of the Union Steamship com pany. He is now in New Zealand making plans for the coming trip. “We will travel first class all the way,” said Dean Landsbury, “yet the trip is not expensive. But it is off the beaten path, and the real l^eauty of the country is enhanced by the fact that it is not commer cialized as yet, and one is not both ered by the inevitable American tourists that infest the European countries.” Polynesians Held Wonderful Dean Landsbury intends to leave from San Francisco in June. With the exception of personal service, passports and small items $875 is the cost, and all accommodations are first class. Suva, the capital city of Fiji, ■will be the headquarters during the tour. The exact route has not been de cided yet, and New Zealand may or may not be included in the itinerary. “The Polynesians are a wonder ful, laughing, cordial people,” said Dean Landsbury. “They are hand some, with powerful physiques, and good features.” Dean Landsbury was impressed with the cordiality of the different races on his last trip, and will again go into the interior of Fiji, where the former old cannibal king lives. “It scarcely seems possible,” he j said, “that 75 years ago these peo ple were blood-thirsty cannibals I and that now they are peaceable, I quiet-loving natives,” The New j Hebrides, the only place where there are a few man-eating cannibals left, I may be included in the route, j “The islands are at their best | in the months of June, July, and ! August,” stated Mr. Landsbury, “the land is not hot then, and the ! indescribable beauty of the coun ! try is at its height.” Dean Landsbury also emphasized j the excellent opportunity that the trip offered for studying the Pacific question at close range. “We are extremely interested in having any one, who is anxious to see this beautiful country with such advan tages, come and talk over the trip with us,” he concluded.
