Initial Frosh Hoop Call Nets Sixty Candidates Many Former Prep Stars Are Among Players On Squad First Practice to be Held In New Pavilion Sixty enthusiastic candidates for the freshman basketball team re sponded to Coach Sjpike Leslie’s first call last night. Among this group of men are several former high school stars and two of these were picked for the all-state team last year. No workout was staged last night but Coach Leslie gathered the year lings into a room and gave them a talk on the type of basketball play ed at Oregon and urged everyone to start training at once. Actual practice will not be started until the first part of next term but all the aspirants for a place on the frosh team were urged to attend as many varsity workouts as pos sible to acquaint themselves with the style of ball played here. Coach Stresses Study Coach Leslie suggested that the green cappers devote all their time to their studies so that he will not have a squad of ineligible players Classified Ads FOUND—Lady’s gold Eversharp pencil. To Play Books Plans are under way to play sev eral strong prep school, teams of the state as well as the games with the Aggie rooks. Washington Univer sity^ babes are also contemplated opponents. The squad will take a trip to Portland where two or three high school teams will be played. A trip to southern Oregon is also being arranged. As has been the custom in past years four games will be played with the rooks. That a fast team is to be ex pected was the basis of Coach Les lie’s talk to the first year men. He said a man would have to be in perfect, condition to play on the team and that he would have to keep going at top speed at all times. Otherwise the player will be bench ed, Leslie threatened.
