The gala event of the week-end; was the Seven Seers’ Costume Cab-1 aret at the Campa Shoppe Friday evening. Many brightly colored' balloons attached to the tables, I glowed beneath shaded lights, and ■ festoons of serpentine lent a car- ] nival air to the room in dres3 that i ranged from elaborate costumes to ^ humorous make - ups. The guests entered by a slide, and were ; greeted by the Seers who appeared j in person for the first time. From the arrival of King Olaf, sovereign of Moronia, for whom the dance was given, and who was portrayed by Jack Seabrook in royal purple and ermine, to the final feature, the. affair was one to be remem bered. Music by the Oregon Aggrava tors, and punch, pastries and cigar ettes were important factors in the success of the affair while acts and special features between danceg in cluding a soft shoe solo, blues songs, musical comedy hits, a magician act, Maypole dance and a wild horse fight, kept the spirits at a high pitch. Prizes for the most ap propriate costumes were awarded to Kables Epping and his partner, Catherine SaTtain, who appeared as Bachanalian revelers, and second prizes were given to a colored gen tleman and his wife. Hosts for the event were Phillipa Sherman, Paul Luy, Gregg Millet, A1 Clark, Sam Kinley, Donald John son and James DePauli. Patrons and patronesses included Miss Ger trude Talbot, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Oberteuffer, Captain J. T. Mur ray, and William Maddox. 'Concealed on a small paper scroll held in the hands of dolls at each place was the announce ment of the engagement of Flora Edwards and Ray McKeown, which was made at a supper late Saturday night at the Pi Beta Phi house. The table in the dining room was banked with flowers in the Beta Theta Pi and Pi Beta Phi colors and the pastries were very cleverly made with the Greek letters of the two organizations. Miss Edwards is a member of the Pi Beta Phi and a junior in the j school of music. For the past two I years she has played in the Uni , versity orchestra. Mr. McKeown, whose home is in | Marshfield, is a member of Beta i Theta Pi and active in student body ' affairs. He is also affiliated with Xu Sigma Nu in the medical school at Portland. * « * Members of Sigma Beta Phi were hostesses at dinner Wednes day evening honoring Dean and Mrs. John Straub, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce J. Giffen, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Bean, Mr. and Mrs. A1 E. Rob erts, and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Simp son. Covers were laid for twenty eight. *■ * * Mrs. Norman B. Mann entertain ed the members of Pot and Quill at her home last Tuesday evening. » * * Thursday afternoon the advanced riding class of that day rode up Spencer’s Butte and dined near the summit. The new members are Katherine Sehnell, Cornelia Meek and Elaine Mobley * * * Miss Jessie La Rue Lewis, of Hood River, was married to Cedric B. Baldwin at Makeweli, Kauai, H. I. on March 26. The bride was a graduate of the University and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Mr. Baldwin graduated from the Cali fornia Agricultural college and is at present the assistant manager! for the Hawaiian Sugar company. [ On Saturday evening the mem- j bers of Beta Theta Pi gave a for- j mal dance. The chapter house was j beautifully decorated with pink and i blue flowers and many ferns.. The j lights were shaded by parchment on which were painted the house crest. Soft lights lined the walks on the lawn, and davenports were arranged under the trees. Catherine Sartain gave a dance of Baccus and later in the evening Frank Boher and Bill Granthum came down the millrace in front of the house and played and sang sev eral numbers.
