WEEKLY SALEM CLASS Excellent Work Is Produced By Citizen Members The popularity of the class in color theory and design, effcred by Noland B. Zane, assistant profes sor of Architecture and Allied Arts, in Salem one night a week, is at tested by the fact that fifty stu dents are enrolled in it. A number of prominent people of the state capital who are interested in civic welfare and active in art circles are taking the course, ac cording to the University Exten sion Division, under whose auspices the course is given. Some conspicu ously good work is being turned out, it is reported. The class meets on Thursday evenings in the auditorium of the Salem public library. The group criticism plan is used in the class, says Professor Zane. All problems turned in are placed in view of the group, so that each per son has the advantage of seeing the others’ work, and observing the good and bad points. Members get their assignments in class, but do their study work at home, thus leaving each class hour open for lectures and demonstrations. The course was first offered last April and is now in its second term. Although relatively a pioneer in the Btudy group plan of art extension work outside of Portland, the course, Professor Zane feels, is a success. A somewhat similar courso in connection with playground ac tivities and social work was intro duced for a short time at Wcndling by Victoria Avakian, instructor in architecture and Allied Arts, ac cording to Mary E. Kont, of tho Extension Division. CHARGE TO BE MADE FOR N. S. F. CHECKS A charge of 50 cents will be made on all N. 8. The charge is not mado to punish the offense, but to cover tho ex pense of collecting the money. From throe to five hundred checks are cashed at the store every day for accommodation, and the directors believo tho students should show their appreciation of this by being less careless in regard to the valid- I The Daintiest Pumps Can Be Cleaned Even though they are the daintiest of pumps they can be cleaned or polished to look like new- Never think they ai'e too soiled to be cleaned.
