SYNCOPATION FEATURED
* AT CAMPUS LUNCHEON
Great Quantities of Food Is
Consumed By Crowd
Three thousand Oregon enthusi
asts enjoyed the campus luncheon
at the men’s gymnasium ydeter
day. Everyone obtained a big plate
of delicious hot food and coffee
without delay, while Burton’s Co
ed Harmonizers added to the gaiety.
Mrs. Edna Prescott Davis super
vised the preparation of the food,
while Edith Sorenson had charge
of the serving. The efficiency
with which the meal was served
was the result of their efforts. The
cooks at Friendly and Hendricks
halls worked steadily for three
nights and days without extra pay
in order to get the food prepared
in time.
The menu consisted of creamed
chicken on large, fluffy biscuits,
cabbage and celery salad, bread and
f butter sandwiches, ice cream sand
wiches and coffee.
More than 1200 pounds of chicken
were obtained for the main dish.
The 3000 large biscuits required
six sacks of flour and 35 pounds of
baking powder. The gravy for the
creamed chicken contained 70 gal
lons of milk, and two sacks of
flour. Five hundred pounds of
cabbage, 144 bunches of celery, and
15 gallons of mayonnaise were used
in the salad.
Besides this, 200 loaves of bread,
90 pounds of butter, 40 pounds of
coffee, 20 gallons of coffee cream,
and 100 gallons of briek ice cream
were consumed by ,the ^ravenous
crowd.
Governor Walter M. Pierce and
about 25 other special guests, in
cluding members of the board of
regents of the University, were re
ceived by Dean Virginia Judy
Esterly as hostess and served by
Frances Bourhill and Chalmers
Nooe.
Edith Sorenson was general chair
man {of the luncheon qommittee
and wap assisted by Edith Shell,
► Katherine Beed, Adelaide Johnson,
Kirk Bollinger, Roland Davis. About
85 people helped make the luncheon
a success.
