SALEM HIGH TEAM
Huntington Brothers Coach
Both Fives Which Will
Clash in Contest
T4ie wits of two famous Oregon ath
letes who ‘are brothers will be matched
tomorrow afternoon when the Oregon
freshman quintet, which is coached by
“Shy” Huntington, meets the fast Sa
lem high five, who are working under
the tutelage of Shy’s brother, Hollis
Huntington. This game will be played
on the floor of the men’s gym and is
the first of a two-game series to be
played by the two teams.
Hollis was as famous a gridiron star
in his days at Oregon as Shy. In 1919
he gaineil nation-wide acclaim for his
work as halfback in the Hemon-Yellow
eleven which fought Harvard to a
standstill in the East-West contest at
Pasadena. He also played on the fam
ous Oregon team which defeated Penn
sylvania at Pasadena in 1916. Upon
his graduation from the University in
1920 he immediately went into the
coaching game and has been having
marked success ever since. This year
his basketball squad at Salem high
has thus far gone through the season
undefeated and they are prepared to
put up a mighty fight before the frosh
can mar that record.
On the other hand brother Shy has
piloted the yearlings with great sue- |
cess thus far, his proteges having mark- j
ed up victories in 11 out of 13 games.
It is probable that the teams will bn
evenly matched and that victory for
either side will depend a good deal
on the strategy of the coaches. The
Oregon babes will start the fray with
Bryant and Scriptures, forwards, Gos
ser, center, and Mantz and Hobson,
guards. Gosser is not in the best condi
tipn possible but his basket-shooting
ability is a big part of the frosh of
fensive. lienee his presence in the line
up. The game is scheduled to start at
4 o’clock.
