OREGON'S TEAM HELD BEST EVER Representatives of Three Col leges in Distance Race Next Saturday When Oregon vies with other insti tutions of the conference in the big cross-country meet .Saturday afternoon the Lemon-Yellow will be represented by the best team in her history, accord ing to Bill Hayward, veteran coach. Glen Walkley and Guy Koepp, the two aces in the team of five which will run the three and one eighth mile course for Oregon, have both demon strated their ability as distance run ners on varsity track teams. Bobson, Curry and Winther, the remaining trio, performed in creditable style on last year’s frosh track squad and are press ing their more experienced team mates close every night in •practice for Sat urday ’s race. Every one of the quin tet is in fairly good condition, and this, coupled with the fact that more time has been devoted to the minia ture marathon this year than ever be fore accounts for Bill’s statement. These reassuring facts should make it evident that the Oregon team will make a good showing in the race but their standing with the other squads is a matter of uncertainty; as little is known of their strength. Up till last night the only coast insitutions which signified their intentions of sending a representation, were Washington and O. A. C. Both of these schools are known to have excellent marathon teams. Washington has had a squad of 75 men out all fall preparing for the race, and O. A. C. has had nearly an oquul number, so they undoubtedly will come down with formidable teams. Idaho also has a good cross-country team, says Bill, but as yet the Vandals have not signified their intention of coming down for the meet. Idaho May Come Earlier in the season Idaho sent word that their competing in the con ference meet depended upon the out come of their deal meet with W. 8. C. This was held last Saturday and result ed in a victory for the Moscow squad so in all probability they will be repre sented here Armistice day. W. 8. C. and the California institutions in tho conference still remain in the dark as to their intentions of enternig the con ference meet, but Hayward is expect ing word within the next day or two. Regardless of the strength or num ber of its opponents, the Oregon quin tet is practicing hard for tho Saturday event, and barring accidents should be in the beBt of shape. Preparations for the race, which will bo staged just prior to the Homecoming football game have all been made, uncording to Hay ward, und the new course is in good shape. Each runner will be numbered and the position of the competitors at various stations along the three and CLASSIFIED ADS Minimum charier, 1 timr, 25c, 2 tin, in, 45c; 6 time*. $1.
