History Professor’s “Notes on English”
in Demand in Japan
Eldon Griffin, assistant professor of
history, has recently been informed by
Kye Hun Kwan, a Tokyo publishing
firm, that the copies of his text, “Notes
on English,” which was printed in
1919, have been exhausted and that
there is a demand for a second edition.
The lack of sufficient materials for
teaching English in Japan caused Pro
fessor Griffin to write the text for per
sonal convenience and for the use of
his students in Dai Hachi Koto Gakko
(Eighth National College), at which
place he taught in the English depart

BALL GAMES CALLED OFF
Series with Pacific Is Great Victory
for Weather Man
The two-game series between Pacific
University and the University of Ore
gon baseball teams, which was to have
been played this week-end, has been
canceled jn account of rain and the
Pacific team has returned to Forest
Grove. The Varsity will swing into
action next Friday and Saturday
against the University of Washington
at Seattle, and because of the inclemen
cy of the weather this spring the con
ference opener will be the first practice
games.
BAIN PREVENTS BASEBALL
The freshman baseball game which
was scheduled for this afternoon has
been called off on account of the poor
condition of the field, which is soggy
on account of the great amount of rain
which has fallen the last two days.
The frosh will open their season in a
two-game series against Columbia Uni
versity here next Friday and Saturday.

get-to gether of all visiting preppers of
the stronger sex iu order that they may
be versed in the knowledge necessary
to become college men of high calibre
We have often thought that there ex
isted such a need; especially as we look
over some of the raw material that graces
our side walks and talks to our fair
maidens every fall.
This is truly a field for improvement.
Accordingly we, OBAK and Co., have

ered quite the thing—as a means of

3— If pledged by any representative
campus organization, such as the School
of Commerce or the CO-OP, it is tradi
tional not to speak to loudly of it; some
one might think you believed all that
they had told you.
4— Always speak to your friends,
something like: “Hello Bill! H’ are-yef

5— Bill Hayward, Dean Straub and the
Pioneer are traditions on the campus

6— It is traditional to watch the moon
rise from the grand stand and also
to study nature in the cemetery. Some
