VARSITY TOSSERS RETURN 3 CARAES ARE WON, 3 LOST Chemawa is Defeated Twice; Legionnaires Victors TEAM SHORT~ON WEIGHT Homecoming Football Team May Remove Handicap The barnstorming basketball aggre gation returned home from the holiday tour leaving three victories and two defeats in their wake. Chemawa went to defeat twice and North Pacific Dental college once before the Oregon team, but the McMinnville and Astoria American Legion teams succeeded in outpointing them. Marc Latham was the only letter man to make the trip. The others were: Zimmerman, Roekhey, Burnett, Altstock, Edlund and Goar. Every man showed up well on the trip, the big drawback being lack of weight. According to Coach Bohler, Zimmerman shows a marked improvement over his work of last year, and bids fair for a position on the final lineup. Practice Is Main Purpose Bohler kept no record of the scores made during the trip, the purpose be ing simply to give the players practice for the coming conference gamee. As far as was possible the men were shifted about relieving each other at the various positions during tho games. Eddie Durno, assistant coach, had ehargo of the men on the whole trip, officiat ing a part of the time. Financially the trip was a success, the cost being about $260 and the to tal receipts taken in amounting to $235, leaving a deficiency of only $25 to be taken from the budget. On Saturday tho Oregon quintet will meet the Multnomah club team in Port land. The last rogular practice before the game was held last night. Coach Bohler will leavo today for Portland and will moot the team there when they arrive Saturday. The men who will make the trip will be picked by him before he leaves. Oregon to Have Light Team According to Couch Bohlor Oregon will have the lightest team in the con ference thiB year, which will bo tlioir greatest handicap. ITowover, ho is confident that the season will not be a bad one for tho varsity. Whore tho players are short in weight they are long on speed and fight. Tho list of renters playing on the conference teams seem to average urmut six feet four. Al least until Hunk Latham returns it will be the weakest point in the Lemon-Yellow lineup. Tho first conference game takes place here against Whitman college Monday night. Coach Bohler does not know yet who will play against the JMethodist tussore. Boiler and Andre are eligible to play and the team will probably lie picked from these two men and the ones who made the holiday tour. Bohler says that none of them have a place cinched and will have to work for their places, lettermen, or other wise. Football Toam Will Help The return of the football team from Hawaii will strengthen the quin tet materially. The date of the re turn is not known definitely, but they are expected sometime next week. Hunk Latham’s six feet three will Change the aspect of things materially around the center position, and it is expected that Reinhart and Chapman may cause a change in the basketball lineup. Though the “Praying Colonels” were doped to win by four, five or even six touchdowns the stalwart Texans played Bo McMillan’s Kentuckians off their feet and won 22-14.
