WILL MEET ON CAMPUS
Newspaper Conference Plans
Are Outlined
Meeting of the northwestern mem
bers of the United Press will be one
of the events of the Annual Newspaper
Conferenee to be held January 13 and
1<1 under the auspices of the school of
journalism. Frank A. Clarvoe, north
western manager of the United Press
has issued a call for a meeting to be
held at this time.
Preliminary plans for the conference
were announced by Dean Allen yester
day.
Ernest Oilstrap, manager of the Eu
gene Register, and one of the ablest
newspaper men in the state in the
handling of foreign advertising, li
scheduled to speak on this phase of the
general situation.
W. F. G. Thacher, professor of ad
vertising in the University, will report
the results of an elaborate investiga
tion among national advertising agen
cies, as to the conditions under which
they will be willing to enter the Ore
gon rural field more extensively t)ian
at present.
Another of the conference speakers
is to be Paul Robertson of the Aurora
Observer, who will have as his sub
ject "Why I solicit advertising out
side of my town.” Mr. Robertson’s
own paper is filled with outside adver
tising.
Upton IT. Gibbs, Eastern Clackamas
Nows, of Estacada, an Episcopal cler
gyman who has becomo a convert to
country journalism, has prepared for
delivery an interesting account of “The
small town weekly aB I havo found it.”
Many prominent newspaper workers
will address the conference.
CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS
INCORPORATED IN SALEM
Local Fraternities Formed, But Aro
Not Yet Authorized by Committee
on Student Living
Two campus organizations havo just
filed articles of incorporation in Salem,
according to an announcement which
appeared in the Portland papers yes
terday. The organizations were given
as Alpha Sigma sorority and Kappa
Delta Phi fraternity, and although
their plans have already been formu
lated, they havo not vet been author
ized by the student living committee,
and accordingly will not function un
til the permission of that body has
been granted.
According to the announcement, the
incorporators of Alphn Sigma aro Eliza
beth Kessi, senior, Harlan, Oregon;
Jane Huson, senior, Cornelius, Oregon;
and Wanda Daggett, senior, Portland;)
while the incorporntors of Kappa Delta !
Phi were given as Delbert V. Hill, jun
ior, Eugene; Bruce McConnell, junior,
Merced, Calif.; and noward E. Ralloy,!
sophomore, Koseburg.
The matter of nuthoriz-ation will be
taken up at a meeting of the student
living committee next Wednesday, and
at thnt time a decision will be made.
