Both the Northwest and Pacific
Coast conferences will meet in Port
land this year, the Northwest December
8, and the Pacific Coast, December
10. There are two applicants for ad
mission to the conferences, the Uni
versity of Washington, which seeks
membership in the Northwest and the
University of Southern California,
which desires a place in the Pacific
Coast conference.
Graduate Mannger Jack Benefiel will
represent Oregon at the Northwest con
clave, while Professor II. C. Howe,
faculty member of the athletic council,
will be the Eugene representative at
the Coast gathering, an organization
which requires representation by fac
ulty men.
Schedules to be Equalized
Schedules for track, baseball, basket
ball, tennis and wrestling for the
schools represented will be the moin
work of the meetings. Especial ref
erence will be made this year to equal
ize the schedules of the various schools
over a period of four or five years and
to arrange it so that none of the insti
tutions represented will make an un
proportional number of long trips.
That the University of Washington
will be admitted to membership in the
Northwest conference is the opinion
of Graduate Mnnagcr Benefiel, who
intends to cast his vote in favor of the
Suiulodgers. Benefiel also stated that
the other schools concerned were heart
ily in favor of accepting Washington’s
petition.
U. ». C. Fate Uncertain
Professor Howe is uncertain as to
what fate Southern California will re
ceive at the bauds of the Pacific Coast
representatives. The professor stated
that he had not yet made up his mind
as to how ho would veto, lint that
he was in fuvor of the Trojans if the
matter of schedule could be worked out
with them equitably, as their admis
sion would complicate the matter of
long trips.
Graduate manager Benefiol intends
scheduling three games which will be
conference games. The teams that will
appear on the local gridiron will bo do
eided upon during the conference meet
ings next month.
Homecoming to be Nov. 11
It is planned now to make next
year’s Homecoming game fnil on Sat
urday the 11th of November, which
will obviate the necessity of the local
merchants closing their establishments
on two consecutive week ends. This
change will also be instrumental in so
curing a much larger crowd than would
otherwise be able to turn out.
The Oregon football machine is tak
ing things easy this week and will
start active training for the Hawaiian

being given by the eoaehing staff to
preclude any possibility of the team
going stale and will give the players a
chance to relax after their strenuous
season.
At least 14 men will sail from San
Francisco on the 14th of December
and it is possible that two or three
others may be taken. Head coach
Huntington and Trainer Hayward will
accompany the team.
