NEWBURY DIRECTS WORK
All Campus Committee Named
To Promote Project
Every student on the campus will
be called upon to write a letter to a
graduate or former student of the Uni
versity inviting them to return for
Homecoming, within the next two
weeks, according to Carl Newbury who
has just been appointed chairman of
the Homecoming letter writing com
mittee by Norton Winnard, chairman
of the general Homecoming committee.
Newbury has appointed the follow
ing committee to care for the work in
campus organizations:

Homecoming envelopes are now on
sale at the Co-op store and more are
being printed so that an “envelope
day” may be held on the campus next
week. A concise program of Homecom
ing events will be announced soon so
that students may include it in their
letters.

Phi Belt Game Close
The Phi Delts took a hard fought
1 contest from the Oregon Club No. 1
team by a score of 13 to 12. It was
nip and tuck from whistle to whistle,
with either team standing to win until
the last minute. Both teams played the
j floor well and showed good team work
: Aim and Wright were the point-getters
i for the Phi Delts while Hill and Frasier
I played the best game for the losers.

A meeting of the University Ad

at 5 o’clock in the journalism shack.
Plans for the entertainment of Charles
H. Mackintosh, president of the associ
ated advertising clubs of the World, on
his visit to the campus on December 1,
will be formulated at the meeting.
During his stay oa the campus, Mr.
Mackintosh is to be the guest of the
Ad club and the officers of the organi
zation wish to start in at once to pre
pare for him.
Among the other matters o be
brought up will be the election of a
secretary-treasurer, Leroy Ashcraft
uot being in school this term. Other
matters will also be brought up for
discussion.

FILIPINO CLUB FORMED
WITH NINETEEN MEMBERS
Canute TJdaaco Is Elected President; j
Intention Is to Take Part In
Debate and Athletics
Canute Udasco of Piddig, Province
of 11oeas Norte, Philippine Islands,
was elected president of the Filipino ;
club, organized last night in Dean :
Straub's office. There are nineteen
members in the association, twelve of
whom are students on the University \
campus, the remainder being registered i
in Eugene high school or the Eugene
Bible university.
Other officers elected were Yicent
I Aqueno, vice-president, Alejandre Pab- j
lo, secretary, and Romulo Avila, treas
f urer.
Fortunato Samonte, Romeo Ronquillo
and Lucius Aquino were appointed to
draw up the constitution.
The club, which is intended pri
marily to bring together the students
from the Islands who are residing in
Eugene, plan to engage in various cam
pus activities, debate, music and ath
letics.

Avila were delegated to investigate the
talent of the organization and make
plans foT the term’s activities.

Year; Nominating Committee Named
The Y. W. C. A. has been especially
unfortunate this year in not being able
to retain officers. Ruth Flegal, presi
dent of the association, has resigned
and Phebe Gage, vice-president, is un
able to fill the vacancy as her time is
filled by other work.
A nominating committee composed
of three girls—Glyde Schuebel, Kay
Bald, and Charlotte Clark, will meet
soon to nominate a new president. The
date for their meeting has not yet j
been set, however.
A regular cabinet meeting will be j
held next Tuesday, November 1, in
the bungalow.
