Although the expenses were enormous, the increased interest in the University aroused amply pays for the effort expended.’’ Profes sor Leland A. Coon, director of the club, expresses himself as wholly pleased with the results of the trip. The alumni of Oregon were especially hospitable to the girls and through them many receptions, luncheons and enter tainments of various kinds were pre pared for the singers. Further Oregon spirit was manifested in the talks given by Laura Hand, manager, and Don Davis, assistant manager in all of the high schools in towns where the club ap peared. Miss Rand and Don Davis in • vited all high school seniors in behalf of the University to attend Junior Week end activities. The first appearance of the dub was in Hillsboro. A full house and enthus iastic reception started the journey. Huod River was next in the itinerary, where numerous diversions were planned to occupy the time until the concert. Mrs. William Stewart was hostess to the entire group at a luncheon at her home on the heights overlooking tthe Columbia. Additional guests were pros pective college students. Cars were pro vided to take the girls over the Mo/.ier and Columbia highways in the after noon, and in the evening. Mr. Hicks, proprietor 'of the Lotus Grille gave a dance there. f fV* Sunday following the Hood River ap nearance. the club stopped at LaGrnndc for the night. Several girls gave solos at the various churches, and Mr. Coon played several numbers on the organ at the Methodist church. These impromptu recitals served to increase the ticket sale for the regular concert by a large percent. In Enterprise the'townspeople met thr> girls with ears to conduct them to Wnl Iok'I1 Lake and the surrounding coun try, sometimes called “The Switzerland of America.” Here the more energeti members engaged in a snow fights. While the rest gathered wild flowers I This is the first: time a girls' glee club has ever appeared in Enterprise. Mr. Coon was assured that any individuals sceptical as to girls musical ability, es pecially Oregon girls, were now fully convinced that, there was such a thing in a very marked manner. When the glee club finally returned to LoGrapde the house was entirely sold out. The audience was wildly enthus iastic, encoring each number until the encores were totally used up. In Baker the high school students gave a dance in the high school gym fol lowing the concert. Here a big recep tion was prepared for the songsters. A progressive dinner was the feature of the Pendleton entertainment. Oregon alumni and mothers of Oregon stu dents opened their homes and prepared MRS.
