A. meeting Tuesday afternoon in eon
nection with the Inter-denominational
Vocational Conference.
The three “L”s, leadership, loyalty
and love were emphasized by Mrs. Ed
kine Burton the Baptist representative in
a short talk. Mrs. W. H. Phillips told
of the definite openings for college wo
men in social work especially in the
south among the poor mountain whites,
as they are called. Also she spoke of
some places in foreign countries where
the need wns imperative.
Ideas of Service Told.
Mrs. P. A. Magruder, the Methodist
representative from Corvallis, mentioned
the new ideas of service and the methods
used to carry them out. She emphasized
the need for college women with their
trained minds and ability to adapt them
selves to all conditions in this social
work which necessarily deals with all
sorts of people. Mrs. Bondi not Seeley
continued the discussion making an ap
peal for greater sacrifice among the
girls. She contrasted the hardships en
countered in countries like China and
Indin to tlie really few things that, we
are asked to give up in this country.
Her subject was “What, does religion
mean to me?" and in connection with
this she told of many little examples of
sacrifice among people interested in tin1
work.
Begin at home and then try to help
others, was the opinion of Mrs. 1). C.
Kellems, representing (lie Christian
ehurch. The work that you do near home
is the stepping stone to greater work in
the future and so especial attention
should be paid to the work near at hand.
Mrs. Leonard. Episeopalinn, spoke of
how our ideas of religion and service
were constantly changing and used (lie
story of the Holy (Trail as an example.
Supper Is Served.
After the meeting the girls stayed
and had supper together. They were di
vided into six denominational groups and
each one put on a stunt. The Presby
terians gave an original song about
themselves and won the honors of the
evening. The girls all sang Oregon songs
for the visitors, .lane Campbell with a
committee of freshman girls had charge
of the supper.
After the stunts were over Miss Edith
White of New York, talked for a short
time on the'call to service and mentioned
particularly the Indian schools iji Mont
ana where she has been just recently.
Mrs. Mugruder in closing her talk
read the following poem which seemed
appropriate to the topics under discus
sion :

DEBATES NOW ASSURED
Inter-sorority Meeting to be Held
Thursday Evening.
An inter-sorority- debate meeting is to
be held in Professor Crockat’s room
Thursday evening. A question will at
this Hmc ho decided upon for the so de
bates. which will take place next term.
Jt bas been a ipiestion for some time
whether or not the inter-sorority debates
would be held this year. They are now
assured, and will be conducted in the
same manner as heretofore. As yet
these debates have no faculty backing,
and are sponsored by /.eta Kappa Psi,
women's national forensic society. How
ever, the girls interested have been
working hard, and still hope to obtain
faculty backing, and college credit for I
the work done, which up to this time
has been unattainable. •
