Owing to the possibility (bat boxing!
may become mi activity supported by the
student body ns an intercollegiate sport,
more interest is centering in the boxing
classes now maintained at the cost of
the school of physical education.
At the meeting of the Pacific coast
and Northwest conferences during the
Christmas holidays, the question of
forming boxing and wrestling confer
ences will be taken up. tunl from the in
formation that eaii be obtained at pres- S
cut it is believed that Oregon will enter
in both of the conferences in ease they
are formed.
Schedule May Be Made,
If the plans to form these conferences j
are completed at this time a definite |
schedule will he made and the boxing j
and wrestling classes will he necessary
in these phases of athletics.
At present there are 308 men of the
I'niversity enrolled in the boxing classes
under the instruction of Charles Daw
son. lie lias been instructing largely
in the rudiments of the game since the
first of the college year. After warm
ing up at the beginning of the class
period with calistheuie exercises the men
are given a few general instructions and
then paired off in order that they may i
put what they have learned into actual
practice. (
Advanced Class Formed. I
Several men in the classes who have
worked especially hard or have a quan
tity of natural ability have been put in
to a separate class. Because of the
limited size of this class each of the
men in it lias (he opportunity to work
out with Mr. Dawson. They are given
harder workouts hut in consequence are
getting more out of the class. It is
from among this class that men will he
chosen to represent Oregon Ml e-si. -1m
enters the conference. The following
men are at present on the roll: Burnet
te, Merrifield, Martinson, Andre, Beck
and Dodds.
