HOW ABOUT IT?
( Well Huntington was induced to bring the varsity squad on
Hayward field Wednesday night to run through signals on the
green turf. He expected the entire school in the grandstand*
full of fight. The team expected the same, (’an you imagine
how they felt when they found a mere handful of men, hall
a band, and a score of women out? Things like that take the
fight out of a football team. You want Oregon to win again
this year. Arc you doing your share to produce that team?
Saturday morning ajt ten, the varsity and freshmen elevens
■yvill engage in a practice scrimmage on the practice lot south
of Hayward field. Would it be too much of an effort for you
to get out for that game? Would it bo too much to ask you
to show Shy and the football men that you really are behind
them? Be there if you posibly can.
Next Wednesday at 4:30 p. m. the last yell practice before
the Idaho game will be held on Kincaid field. Arrange your
plans now so that you can be there. Men and women of Ore
gon, you must be there. The Idaho garni* will be a stiff prop
osition for Oregon. Show Shy and the Varsity the school is
behind them. You be there!
Few people realize that the Y. M. 0. A. and Y. \Y. ('. A.
have been and are still conducting a membership campaign
on the campus. The campaign is not a drive, no tags are be
ing issued, and no one is being compelled to join. You are
hrvited to join one of the campus Christian organizations, not
because they need your dollar, but because they value your
co-operation and interest. You must realize that the campus
Christian organizations have assumed the responsibility of
performing important and definite work vital to the welfare
of campus life. It is your duty to do your part in this work,
to .join the Y. M. (’. A. or Y. VY. (A A. and assist them in their
undertakings.
Three years ago the student council passed a ruling that
the sophomore class should not interrupt or interfere in any
way with the Freshmen class acquaintance party, which is
held annually near the opening of the year. This year the party
is scheduled for Saturday night. If sophomore men want to
see a real class spirit among the freshmen, they had best keep
away from the party. Freshmen have their first real opportu
nity to meet each other and sophomores must stay away.

•Flush eleven in liilfi. and who is out this
year fur the first time since then ap
pears to he the only baekfield man who
is sure of his position. And even "Bill
may lie nosed out yet. Itinehart showed
himself to he a "fit man to fill hig 'Bill'
Steers shoes” in the game against Mult
nomah last Saturday, according to Port
land sport writers who witnessed the
game. "Bill” played a good game against
the clubmen and proved his ability to
pilot the team through the pinches. *
The line positions are still about as
much up in the air as before and Coach
Huntington has not given out any infor
mal ion as to what he will do in the line
selections yet. "Spike" Leslie. and
his brother "Brick” appear to be on the
first string to stay as does “Mart” How
ard at left end. The other positions are
still at stake. "Brick” Leslie holds
down the pivot position on the lemon
yellow eleven and although one of the
lightest men on the line seldom fails to
stop any plays that come his way.
Varsity Shows Improvements.
"Spike” is holding down his old posi
tion at left tackle and is doing most of
the punting this season. “Mart” Howard
is playing better football this year than
he did last and will make a name for
himself in conference circles this season
if he keeps up his present pace.
Assistant Coach “Bart” Spellman left
yesterday for Moscow, where he will
get a line on the University of Idaho
eleven in their game with the Wushing
ton State College team there this after
noon. Little is known of Idaho's strength
and they may spring a surprise in the
game.
According to Coach Huntington the
Varsity is beginning to show a great
deal of improvement ,in practice work
outs and should be going good by this
• time next week. There is still a great
deal of rough edging work to be done.
The team is not in shape to go into a
conference game but they are appearing
much faster and working better than be
fore. “Speed is now the main object”
Huntington said last, night, “and we have
got to develop it.”
