-Mr. Bohler arrived on the campus
last week from the east and comes here
filled with enthusiasm over Oregon’s
prospects for a successful year in ath
letics. His expression of this confidence
in the strength of Oregon’s teams to-be
chrystalizes in his statement that he
considers Oregon “the most desirable
college on the coast” in which to follow
his line of work.
Prominent As Athlete.
If you glance through the files of this
paper for the years 1012 to 1014 yotr
may find that Bohler was prominent dur
ing those years as a cougar athlete not
only in basketball, in which be starred
at guard through three seasons, but also
in football and baseball. lie graduated
from his alma mater in 1014 and since
that time has had experience in the east
as a coach and physical director.
During the recent wiair he held a first
lieutenant’s commission in the regular
•army and after two and a half years
foreign service secured his discharge
last December He was in. the Army of
Occupation and after doing his part of
“Die Wacht Am Rhein” was Iransforred
to Antwerp, the scene of the recent
Olympiad, as Assistant Provost Mar
shal.
Has Oregon Spirit.
His enthusiasm over the Lemon-Yel
low’s prospects for the coming year may
be taken as proof that lie lias already
felt the touch of “Oregon Spirit” an
is prophetic for his suecess ' among the
faculty and students at Oregon.
His work for the coming term will in
clude the handling of the men’s gym
classes beside instruction in swimming
and boxing.
POWERS AT INSTITUTE

Assistant Extension Director On East
ern’Oregon Visit.
Alfred Powers, assistant director of
the extension department, is attending
teachers’ institute in I’ralrie City, in
Grant county, Jlurns in Harney county,
end Lakeview in Lake county. As there
are no trains in this part of the state he
will have travel 400 miles by stage.
Mr. Powers expects to return to Eu
gene October 2.
PLANS FOR DEBATING

Michael Says.
Prof. William M. Michael of the de
partment of public speaking, who is the
successor of Prof. Tt. W. Prescott,
states that complete plans for intercol
legiate debate will soon be announced.
The large enrollment in his classes is sin
excellent indication of the interest in de
bate at Oregon, says Prof. Michael. He
expressed the view that interest should
be centered in intercollegiate debate. In
rr.mural debate will be encouraged but,
in his opinion, the quality of work done
in such debates does not as a rule, justify
the giving of University credit.
Professor Michael is a graduate of
the University of .Illinois. He did his
major work in the department Of English
mil took an native part in intercollegiate
debate. He was also active in university
dramatics.

Coming all the way from her home in
Rhode Island to get some of the spirit
for which Oregon is pated, Miss Esther
Wilson, sister of airs. Sun Bass War
ner .has enrolled ns a freshman in the
School of .Music. Miss Warner is study
ing music under Madame Rose Mcfirew.
She is a graduate of Bradford academy,
a preparatory school for girls near Bos
ton, ainss.
